MISO Energy Policy Planner in Carmel, Indiana

Description

The electric industry is experiencing transformative changes at an unprecedented rate, driven by aging infrastructure, evolving consumer preferences, and the convergence of environmental and political objectives. Coupled with the rising emphasis on digitalization and electrification, these shifts are dramatically altering the dynamics of energy consumption, impacting the characteristics of MISO's resource fleet.

Against this backdrop, MISO is looking for a creative and forward-thinking Policy Planner who is eager to tackle these challenges and help shape the future of the grid. As a Policy Planner , you will play a crucial role in analyzing and understanding the implications of the rapidly evolving energy landscape.

In this role, you'll be part of a diverse team that integrates policy, engineering, and economics to develop and evaluate multiple planning scenarios over a twenty-year horizon. Your work will involve identifying new generation resources and supply alternatives to meet future needs and requirements, including determining optimal locations for these resources within the grid.

Additionally, you will be instrumental in communicating the team's analysis and findings to a broad audience, serving as a liaison with other projects, teams, and external stakeholders.

In your first year as a Policy Planner , your success will be measured by your ability to:

  • Utilize your expertise to enhance MISO’s processes, transforming them into leading-edge tools that address the rapidly changing energy landscape.

  • Build and nurture relationships with MISO stakeholders, gathering insights, addressing concerns, incorporating feedback, and fostering trust.

  • Effectively document and present complex data and analysis in a clear and impactful manner, influencing decisions and advancing the organization’s goals.

We are looking for talented professionals who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in one of several disciplines. Please refer to the list below for the qualifying degrees.

Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.

Qualifications

Education

Required

  • Bachelors or better in Economics

  • Bachelors or better in Environmental Science

  • Bachelors or better in Environmental Studies

  • Bachelors or better in Public Policy

  • Bachelors or better in Public Affairs

  • Bachelors or better in Engineering

Experience

Preferred

  • Prior industry experience preferred in any of the following: electric energy resource planning, energy policy, electric power industry economics, power plant and transmission line modeling, environmental regulations, or project management.

  • Prior industry experience working for an Independent System Operator (ISO), Regional Transmission Operator (RTO), federal or state regulatory commission, Electric Reliability Organization (ERO), Regional Reliability Organization (RRO) or utility
