Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. is hiring a temporary Chemist with an estimated 1,000 hours of work. Travel is potential.

Navarro provides technical and professional services to support the Department of Energy (DOE) Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO) and Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP). We provide subject matter experts and assist CBFO with WIPP site operations and health and safety, including nuclear safety, oversight. We support CBFO with implementation of their quality assurance, waste management, and environmental and regulatory compliance programs, including developing strategies and engineering design and construction solutions to improve site operations. Navarro also provides program/project management support as well as audits/assessments and implementation of scientific programs.

This position will be responsible for developing a framework for an internally consistent and complete thermodynamic database, including derivation of Pitzer parameters for currently unparameterized actinide systems, particularly plutonium (Pu) and uranium (U); and for establishing an upper boundary on redox conditions in a deep geological repository.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Geochemistry, or Inorganic Chemistry with a background in Geology.

  • Ten or more years demonstrated experience in thermodynamic modeling of evaporite and or/oil-field systems, evidenced by specific training in the development and/or parameterization of the Pitzer model, and peer-reviewed publications in trade journals.

Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.
