UPMC Carlisle is looking for a weekend option Professional Staff Nurse, Expert, BSN (RN) for their Acute Cardiac & Neuro Unit!

Position Summary:

· Weekend Option (24 hours per week)

· 25% Differential for weekends!

· Weekend Shifts – any shifts between 3pm on Friday – 7am on Mondays.

· Every other holiday

· 24 bed unit

Unit Description / Highlights:

· This unit specializes in providing care to patients with cardiac & neurological conditions.

· Frequent interdisciplinary collaboration between other healthcare professionals and essential services departments.

· The Acute Cardiac & Neuro unit fosters a supportive atmosphere that values each team member’s contributions!

Purpose

The Professional Staff Nurse, Expert (RN) is a valuable member of the care delivery team – setting the standards for the quality of patient care. This role provides a variety of patient care activities to a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with colleagues.

The Professional Staff Nurse, Expert (RN) encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. In this role, establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with physicians, other healthcare professionals, patients, and their families is vital to achieving the best patient outcomes and continuum of care. The Professional Staff Nurse, Expert (RN) demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.

Responsibilities:

  • Creates daily goals and plans of care for patients, involving the patient as partner and considering their individual needs in a holistic way.

  • Utilizes critical thinking skills and knowledge of evidence-based practices (relative to specialty area) to improve their patients’ plans of care.

  • Practices solid communication skills and can articulate the patient's condition to other care providers, offering recommendations for changes in patient care / unit practices & communicating any safety hazards to peers and leadership.

  • Provides patient documentation that is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers.

  • Creates a healing environment for patients by applying a Relationship Based Care framework to their nursing process.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of adult learning principles (and/or teaching children if applicable) and applies in teaching of patients, families, students and new staff.

  • Supports the development of students, new staff and colleagues, may serve as a preceptor.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4 years of RN experience required for the Professional Staff Nurse, Expert, BSN title.

  • Candidates who do not meet these minimum qualifications may still be considered. However, a minimum of 6-months of RN experience is required for Weekend Option RNs. Title and rate will be based on experience and education level.

  • BSN preferred but not required (*please note salary range on posting includes BSN differential)

Additional Qualifications:

Annual completion of a professional contribution selected from department, hospital or system gals, and approved by Unit Director AND either: UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained. Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held. If a BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of Certification. The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures. Must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on a Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation to be promoted to this level. Must maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annual performance evaluation to maintain status. Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment. Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care. Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process. Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Additional License Requirements - Annual completion of a professional contribution selected from department, hospital or system gals, and approved by Unit Director AND either: UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained. Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held. If a BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of Certification. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Act 34

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
