About this opportunity

With record levels of investment in the water industry set by OFWAT, this is an exciting time to be working in the Water Industry to develop solutions to address the significant challenges we face, including climate change, population growth, and affordability. Funding is being secured to deliver long-term resilience of the water supply, including strategic resource and transfer options, improve network performance to achieve service levels for customers, improve water quality, reduce leakage and energy costs through network optimisation, and reduce demand through smart meter installation and management programmes, and water efficiency initiatives. Hydraulic network modelling and network management practices provide the foundation to delivering these workstreams, supporting investment planning, optioneering and feasibility studies, design and solution delivery through construction, commissioning, benefits realisation and scheme handover support. Our Water Networks team work with the majority of the UK&I water companies, and we have seen our discipline continue to grow over recent years. We have been successful in securing key frameworks for AMP8, and are continuing our journey to expand our service offerings and provide integrated service delivery to support our clients in achieving their goals and enhance services to communities.

As a member of our collaborative team, you will:

  • Support the technical delivery of water network modelling / network management and optimisation projects and adhere to scope, budget and programme.

  • Bring your experience in the field of water network modelling and network management and optimisation, working with the team to shape the methodology and solutions as required

  • Be willing to support the wider water networks team when required, complement the other specialisms within the team and work flexibly on a variety of projects.

About You

This role is an excellent opportunity for a motivated candidate to broaden their experience and thrive in an environment where there is plenty of opportunity to develop. We welcome people from varied backgrounds (regulatory, water company or consultancy) who have recent experience applying their knowledge of water networks and hydraulic modelling. We are looking for people who are used to working in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams to deliver technical excellence for our clients and stakeholders.

We are looking for:

  • Previous experience in building, updating and using hydraulic network models, modelling design, operational modelling support, and also a sound understanding of water systems operation, management and optimisation.

  • The ability to undertake developer impact assessments and growth studies, pressure management design, mains replacement design and optimisation work.

  • Strong experience in the analysis of water balance and water networks data with the ability to work with large volumes of data and use analytics to spot trends and patterns, present data and identify solutions.

  • An understanding of hydraulic principals and experience of using modelling software, such as InfoWorks, SynerGi, InfoWater as well as ARCGIS or similar. The ability to use PowerBI and FME are advantageous.

  • Use of modelling and statistical analysis to investigate asset risk to enable appropriate management of water assets.

  • The ability to liaise with clients and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of projects to time, cost and quality.

  • Proven experience in the preparation of deliverables including technical reports, hydraulic models, presentations and web-based reporting.

  • A degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant subject, such as civil or environmental engineering, environmental science, geography. A post-graduate degree in civil engineering or related water subject is advantageous.

  • Active involvement with relevant institutions such as CIWEM, ICE or the Institute of Water and either chartered or working towards your professional chartership.Stantec will support employees in progressing towards their chartership.
