NiSource Mgr Corporate Media Relations in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania

Job Summary

The Manager Corporate Media Relations is responsible for developing and executing the NiSource media relations plan and collaborating across the department to advise and facilitate all media interactions. The Manager is located at our Columbus, OH headquarters and will ensure positive media relationships are built and maintained to enhance quality and accuracy of coverage.

Essential Functions

  • Drives excellence in media relations through building strategic relationships with top-tier reporters, editors, and producers and managing proactive stories and reactive issues for the company.

  • Manages inbound requests.

  • Partners cross-functionally to apply forward thinking and research skills to shape communications that are most relevant for key stakeholder groups.

  • Develops and implements risk mitigation strategies for anticipated/identified communications risks.

  • Builds and equips spokespeople with briefing materials and media training.

  • Grows the team’s capability in media relations, developing partners through our mission and values.

  • Listens and engages with speed and curiosity to define clear goals and outcomes.

  • Crafts proactive narratives to articulate financial and corporate strategies and prepare reactive situations with key stakeholders.

  • Forms strong, collaborative relationships with key leaders and support partners across the company to inform, develop, and implement communications strategies that support our top external communications priorities.

Required Qualifications For Position

  • Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism, or related field.

  • 7-9 years Experience in communications with proven results in media relations resulting in top tier media coverage.

  • Experience in the latest communications measurement and monitoring tools, including developing and tracking KPIs to align with business objectives.

  • Experience managing crisis communications and navigating sensitive issues with professionalism and integrity.

  • Demonstrated success in forging strong relationships and collaborating with the press, executives, and other key stakeholders. High

  • Ability to collaborate with other departments and interface with all levels of management. High

  • Expertise in identifying, developing, and telling impactful stories across multiple channels. High

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities concurrently, produce quality work under tight deadlines, and move projects forward with minimal direction. High

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for different audiences and communication channels. High

  • Understanding of regulations and principles specific to communications for a publicly traded utilities company. High

  • Demonstrating in-depth knowledge of media and investor landscape as it relates to the brand and competitor set. High

  • A natural disposition to work with urgency in a fast-paced environment in which every day is unlike the last. High

  • Schedule flexibility and availability for critical after-hours assignments, notably inbound media inquiries. High

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • Master's Degree

  • 10+ years Media relations experience.

  • Experience in the utilities sector

Salary Range:

$107,000.00 - $160,500.00
