Preventive Maintenance Technologist

This position requires a motivated and self-directed individual to perform preventative maintenance, design, fabrication, qualification, and repair of the facility's custom and off-the-shelf manufacturing equipment. It is essential that the incumbent is confident working under pressure and has outstanding communication skills.

Preventative Maintenance Technologists will be expected to support the reliability of the production equipment and processes with occasional duties assigned related to the maintenance and repair of building systems. Flexibility in terms of daily schedule will be required to minimally impact manufacturing during equipment repairs and/or installations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair of manufacturing equipment where applicable and complete all necessary documentation.

  • Ensure all quality, safety (internal & external) and regulatory policies and standards are met when completing their work.

  • Provide backup with review of preventative maintenance (PM) records to ensure PM are performed and documented properly.

  • Identify opportunities for improvement for existing equipment to increase reliability and lower costs.

  • Develop and/or assist in developing preventive maintenance standards and methods for equipment.

  • Analyze, prepare and present information on new and/or existing equipment.

  • Provide leadership in equipment breakdowns and/or new installations.

  • Assist Quality Assurance in investigating irregularities concerning manufacturing equipment systems.

  • Assist in developing preventative maintenance tasks and schedules.

  • Perform documentation reviews to assure compliance and maintains all necessary logs and records within the area of responsibility.

  • Interface with Quality Assurance and the Engineering teams when changes are required to equipment that may impact product or processes or when new equipment is being considered for process.

  • Assist in the ordering of Equipment spare parts and ensure inventory is maintained to an accurate and acceptable level.

  • Provide back up and assistance to the Maintenance Department when required.

  • Support and execute calibration activities when required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Quality Systems Regulation related to medical device manufacturing, including the ability to apply regulatory requirements to preventive maintenance and repairs would be an asset.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing and technical equipment, operations, and functions is desired.

  • Maintenance, design, and fabrication of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment is desired.

  • Electrical and mechanical trouble-shooting skills and ability is desired.

  • Working knowledge of equipment/process control ideally by PLC and NI Lab View is desired.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, process schematics and technical manuals.

  • Knowledgeable of city, municipal and federal codes would be desired.

  • Computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook is required.

  • Familiar with CMMS/EAM systems would be an asset.

Education and Experience:

  • 2 years of related experience in a regulated manufacturing working environment.

  • Have Technical Degree or Diploma in related field.

  • Willing to develop and/or in progress of obtaining 5th Class Power Engineer certification.

Working Conditions:

  • On-site position at our Burnaby, British Columbia facility.

  • Weekday shifts and potentially some weekend shifts scheduled as needed by the business.

  • Kneeling, bending, standing and/or walking for extended periods.

  • Work in a controlled environment requiring special garments and safety equipment (ex. gloves, masks, etc.).

  • Work in a confined space (ex. autoclave, fume hoods, etc.).

  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.

  • Handling and usage of chemicals.

  • Shift times vary morning to midnight.

  • Must carry valid drivers' license and vehicle.
