For more information, visit amwater.com and join American Water on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. _ Primary Role_ The Sr. Financial Analyst – Capital Program is responsible for supporting the Capital Program Management team within the engineering department. This role gathers and analyzes financial performance data of the capital investment program as delivered by the state operating companies. This role works under moderate to minimal supervision and may independently handle presentations to senior leaders within the organization. Duties include all or part of the following: financial data analysis for department/functional performance and spend monitoring/reporting; asset financial records management; preparation and maintenance of documentation; general support and administration of capital projects and programs; and special projects. _ Key Accountabilities_ * Partner and liaise with internal and external colleagues and functions to collect the individual pieces of financial and capital project/program delivery data and information required to complete analysis. * Analyze capital spending trends and unitized costs; utilize findings to help develop tools and methods to support capital project and program budgeting and forecasting. * Complete analysis and prepare recommendations for improving performance and monitoring of key capital spending categories; support initiatives to drive capital efficiency and optimizing capital forecasting based on non-financial business activity indicators (i.e. production rates of work crews, etc.). * Analyze data for department work processes, business systems and reports. Prepare variance reports as required. * Assists in preparation of documents related to the capital investment budget. Assists in monitoring expenditures to budget according to the Capital Program Management policies and procedures. * Prepare and analyze or contribute to department or functional key performance indicator reports and dashboards. * Assist in the formulation of corporate policies and procedures and compliance with such policies and procedures. * Support the execution of key financial targets and metrics through the development and implementation of proactive dashboards, measurements and variance analyses. * Assist and/or Lead in the creation of complex spreadsheets, supporting analysis of capital spending. * Work with state capital program management teams and project deliver teams to deliver effective analysis of results (plan, forecast and actuals). _ Knowledge/Skills_ * Strong quantitative skills (e.g., analytical, technical, problem solving). * Excellent written and verbal communication skills (e.g., fluency in report writing and presentations). * Accounting concepts and understanding of analytical concepts for financial analysis as well as US GAAP accounting practices. * Methodologies and practices of data collection, research methodologies and of statistical and cost analysis. * Review and analysis of business and financial data. * Execution and analysis using company business technologies and computer simulation programs. * Must have the ability to review data and make appropriate decisions regarding public utility operations and to project future costs. * Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Power Point, Excel) with particular advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel. _ Experience/Education_ * 5 years of pertinent financial experience; specific experience in the regulated water/wastewater industry preferred. * Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, accounting, business or a closely related field. Advanced degree preferred.
