    The Opportunity:

    As part of our Yield Management Team, the Yield Analyst is responsible for maximizing profitability for Challenger through all divisions, with an emphasis on closed van full truckload shipments, by utilizing in-depth analysis, liaising with Operations for solutions and managing deadlines in a fast-paced team environment. The Yield Analyst will also be responsible for customer-specific design and optimization. This role requires a candidate with excellent analytical skills, an ability to summarize data in a simple manner and a desire to work closely in cross-functional teams.

The chosen candidate will be a critical thinker with the ability to work independently to complete a wide range of analysis while also being able to work in a team to collaborate and support on a wide variety of profit-related initiatives.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Yield Analysis:

  • Utilizing In-house software for lane analysis and creating action plans to improve profitability on a lane-by-lane, customer-by-customer, and overall network basis.

  • Customer-Specific Lane Optimization: Using in-house processes, evaluating optimal solution design to maximize profitability within capable service solutions.

  • Demand Optimization: Improving our ability to anticipate demand and allocate capacity, in order to maximize capacity utilization of all assets.

  • Lead Annual Pricing Review Analysis for Challenger’s largest customers.

  • Lead Large Scope Pricing Opportunities

  • Manages high priority, large-scale requests for pricing that have a major and direct impact on overall network profitability and design.

  • Communicates and collaborates with Operations, Sales, Pricing and Yield teams on new network focuses/directives and their desired impact on network profitability.

  • Subject Matter Expert on Leveraging New Tools for Pricing and Yield Team:

  • Continually work to enhance our pricing tools with updated cost inputs and data utilized to create a more automated pricing process.

  • Leverage analytics software (including but not limited to Alteryx, Knime, etc.)

  • Revenue Quality Management Reporting:

  • Leading regular updates to key company stakeholders reporting on all incoming revenue, revenue losses and any quality of revenue adjustments through the entire closed-van network.

  • KPI Reporting & Improvement: Monitoring key indicators, such as: contribution per mile, loaded versus empty miles, trailer pool ratios, MPG’s, and others. Recommending solutions and managing action plans to improve trending on all key indicators.

  • Supporting Operational initiatives by providing data analysis and recommendations as needed.

  • Project Management:

  • Leading and participating in team projects that help improve Challenger’s bottom line. Liaising with stakeholders from various departments to ensure we are on track and managing change.

  • Pricing Project Management: Support the Pricing team by managing select major active customer RFPs that also require Yield analysis.

  • Leading action plans that ensure our quality of revenue continues to improve, while meeting tight deadlines.

  • Process Creation: Able to achieve efficient solutions for workflow management to ensure documentation and adoption of new processes. Foster a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Data Presentation: Creating tailored summaries and presentations of large data analysis for internal stakeholders.

  • Liaising: Work very closely with other analytically minded stakeholders to optimize our network balance in specific corridors or regions across North America.

  • Communication & Collaboration: Ongoing, active, and frequent interaction with Pricing, Operations, Sales and Logistics to ensure that all costs are accounted for, and all realities of our operational network are considered when analyzing opportunities.

  • Customer Service: Excellent ability to deal with internal team members and customers in a positive and supportive manner.

  • Process Improvement: Willingness to take the initiative in making improvements and resolving issues.

  • To go, above and beyond, when necessary to ensure the team’s success, credibility and accuracy of work is exceeding expectations.

  • To perform other related duties as required.

    What You Need To Be Successful In This Role:

  • Strong MS Excel experience with a proven record of utilizing MS Excel to its complete capabilities

  • Experience with Knime, Alteryx or similar workflow software considered an asset

  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field

  • Transportation experience/knowledge or a strong interest in optimization preferred

  • Highly competent in the use of all MS Office Suite

  • Possess a good working knowledge of the geography of North America

  • Strong attention to detail with a desire to ensure accuracy

  • A quick learner, with the ability to manage competing deadlines

  • Great time management and organizational skills in order to meet multiple, and at times competing priorities

  • Ability to work independently on projects

  • Ability to handle difficult situations with internal and external customers

  • Great time management and organizational skills
