Job Title: Correctional Officer - Multiple Positions Available

Job Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Dorchester County Department of Corrections is currently hiring for multiple Correctional Officer positions. These are full-time roles that come with a full benefits package. Correctional Officers are required to work shift schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays. New hires will begin their assignment at the Dorchester County Detention Center located at Fieldcrest Drive and may be assigned to any shift.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Enforce rules, regulations, and laws governing the custody, security, conduct, discipline, safety, and well-being of inmates.
  • Complete all necessary training to become a Correctional Officer I if hired as a probationary officer.
  • Provide security and maintain discipline within the Detention Center.
  • Monitor inmates activities, movements, and general behavior.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Certifications (minimum qualifications):

  • Age Requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen with good moral character.
  • Certification (for CO I): Must be a certified Correctional Officer to be hired as a CO I.
  • Background Check: A complete background investigation (including criminal, credit, and driving records) will be conducted on all applicants.
  • Physical/Medical: Selected applicants will receive a conditional offer of employment, contingent on satisfactory results of a medical examination, drug test, psychological evaluation, and background checks.

Signing Bonus Information:

  • $2,000 upon approved hire, contingent on signing a 2-year contract.
  • $1,500 upon satisfactory completion of the probationary period.
  • $1,500 upon successful completion of the 2nd year of the contract.
