Job Description:

The Immune Checkpoint Cluster, within the Immunology & Inflammation Therapeutic Area in Sanofi, aims to discover new mechanistic pathways in autoimmune diseases and to develop these findings into novel disease-modifying drugs that improve the lives of patients. Our focus is on inflammatory processes mediated by dysregulated innate and adaptive immunity, resulting in loss of immunological tolerance. Disease areas of interest reflect these mechanisms and include systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and may extend into other immune-mediated pathologies according to where our scientific discoveries lead us.

We wish to recruit a Scientist 1 who will work in a dynamic, matrix laboratory team environment, with the aim to identify new disease targets and transition these through to drug development. The successful candidate should have a solid background in immunology and the demonstrated ability to productively integrate into research projects as part of a collaborative team, contributing both technical expertise and functional knowledge. Competitive applicants with hands-on experience in cytokine signaling, innate sensing pathways and/or regulatory T-cell (Treg) biology are strongly encouraged to apply. S/he should be able to work with a high degree of flexibility and under limited supervision, managing time efficiently to enable contribution to multiple projects simultaneously.

Job Responsibilities:

• Contribute to and/or lead drug discovery programs through design and execution of experiments to evaluate the efficacy and safety of therapies targeting cytokines, innate sensors, and checkpoint receptors for autoimmune disease intervention. This will involve both in vitro and in vivo experimentation, as well as data collection and analysis.

• Provide oral and written communication of project updates and data packages to varied audiences.

• Maintain awareness of current scientific developments in the autoimmunity field and integrate this knowledge to improve/enhance current research activities and to propose and champion new targets for novel therapeutic programs.

• Maintain a detailed and timely electronic lab notebook in compliance with Sanofi laboratory guidelines.

• Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, and appropriate handling and disposal of materials such as active drug substances and biohazardous material.

• This position requires significant hands-on laboratory benchwork and has no direct reports.

About you

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in immunology or related field with at least 1 year of post-doctoral laboratory experience OR Master’s degree plus >3+ years OR Bachelor’s degree plus >5+ years laboratory experience in an academic or biopharmaceutical setting, preferably including a strong background in immunology.

• Significant experience isolating primary mouse and/or human immune cell subsets for subsequent modification and characterization in complex immunological assays.

• Working knowledge of high-dimensional flow cytometry and FACS-based immunophenotyping (both panel design and downstream data analysis using FlowJo or similar software).

• Proficiency across cellular and molecular techniques, which may include stable (reporter) cell line generation and characterization, protein detection (MSD, Luminex, Jess), and gene profiling (RT-PCR, NanoString, NGS).

• S/he must be scientifically rigorous, highly organized, and self-motivated; must be able to work independently while interacting and maintaining strong working relationships across a diverse group of research collaborators.

• Demonstrated curiosity and ability to master new skills, troubleshoot both technical and scientific problems, and analyze and interpret experimental data and suggest next steps.

• Excellent organizational and time management skills required.

• The following would be highly desirable but are not a prerequisite: in vivo mouse experience (live handling, post-mortem tissue acquisition and processing) or the willingness to learn; experience with CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing & lentiviral gene modification technologies.
