    Job Description

RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE, Koch Institute (KI) for Integrative Cancer Research (https://ki.mit.edu/) -Chen Lab (http://chen-lab.mit.edu/) , to support a fast-paced and exciting research program in immunology, cancer biology, and metabolic diseases. Will assist with maintaining efficient laboratory operations, maintain mouse colonies and laboratory equipment, provide basic laboratory support for researchers and their projects, assist with prep work for experiments, and conduct experiments. Responsibilities include preparing and submitting animal protocols; monitoring inventory and placing and receiving orders; collecting and processing lab samples or research data; updating lab calendar, directories, and mailing lists; maintaining vendor relationships and equipment service contracts/records; scheduling equipment maintenance/repairs; serving as a resource to lab personnel; updating databases; following safety standards/procedures, ensuring safe disposal of biohazard waste, maintaining safety records, and interfacing with MIT environmental health and safety personnel; organizing and supporting lab social activities. The position provides an opportunity to strengthen your molecular and cell biology, immunology, and cancer immunotherapy research experience; increase your knowledge of working with experimental animals; and to both join ongoing and develop independent research projects.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; willingness to work with animals; experience working in a team-oriented environment with people of diverse backgrounds; comfort summarizing and reporting results to researchers; self-motivation; excellent time-management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; commitment to exceeding quality standards, providing exceptional services, and producing accurate and high-quality work; meticulous attention to detail; practiced documentation skills; and awareness of basic safety issues and ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment. PREFERRED: bachelor’s degree in biology or related field; basic knowledge of general laboratory practices/procedures; research experience in biological sciences; and exposure to a research lab.
