ROLE SUMMARY

As a Automation Engineer II, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining automation systems for our organization. This position provides an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about hands-on work with a strong background in electrical engineering and proficiency in PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programming.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • PLC Programming and System Design:

  • Develop and maintain PLC programs to control and automate processes in our manufacturing or industrial environments.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement efficient automation systems that meet project requirements.

  • Troubleshoot and debug PLC programs and identify areas for improvement.

  • Electrical Engineering Support:

  • Assist in the design and installation of electrical systems for automation equipment.

  • Collaborate with electrical engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of automation systems with existing electrical infrastructure.

  • Conduct electrical tests and inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards.

  • Hands-On Automation Support:

  • Perform hands-on installation, configuration, and maintenance of automation hardware and software.

  • Collaborate with technicians and operators to ensure smooth operation of automation systems.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to automation systems to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.

  • Documentation and Reporting:

  • Create accurate and detailed documentation of automation systems, including system designs, specifications, and manuals.

  • Provide regular progress reports on automation projects, including performance metrics and potential areas for improvement.

  • Continuous Learning and Development:

  • Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in automation and PLC programming.

  • Actively participate in training programs to enhance technical skills and expand knowledge in the field of automation engineering.

This position reports to the Senior Technical Manager. This position is located in Cambridge, Ontario and working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm local time. Overtime and weekend working hours may be required as needed. This position is expected to travel up to 40%

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • 2-3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably working with PLC programming and automation systems.

  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming languages such as ladder logic, function block diagrams, or structured text.

  • Hands-on experience with automation hardware, including sensors, actuators, and HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems.

  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).

  • Knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

SALARY RANGE FOR POSITION

The anticipated starting pay range of this position, which is to be located in Cambridge, Ontario is $80,000 - $ 100,000 base salary per year. The salary range shared in the job description is for the listed position. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, geographic location, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications. An additional discretionary bonus structure or incentives may be offered as part of the overall compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, dental, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Travel: up to 40% as needed
