DESCRIPTION:

The Sr. Flight Test Engineer will develop operationally representative mission scenarios to assist both DoD and commercial customers in defining requirements. Key responsibilities include planning for and executing ground and flight test events as well as analyzing and presenting test data.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Sr. Flight Test Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Executing and managing ground and flight test events, range and airspace management, and Test Readiness Reviews

  • Collecting and analyzing test data

  • Defining test requirements

  • Developing test procedures and test plans for manned and unmanned platforms and related systems in coordination with other engineers and test pilots

  • Capturing data requirements from multiple design engineers and documenting in test plans

  • Ensuring the test aircraft is configured correctly for the test events and executing configuration management procedures

  • Instrumentation of test assets, ensuring the sensors and recording systems are installed for required data parameters

  • Coordinating with test pilots to develop test cards for specific flights and monitoring flight test instrumentation during real time flights- Documenting and presenting results to clients and senior management.

  • Supporting test events, technology demonstrations and training events to include flight test, environmental qualification and stress screening, and software testing.

  • Interfacing with systems engineers, and collaboration with mechanical, electrical and aerospace engineers in planning, design and manufacture of systems to ensure performance.

  • Developing interface definitions and enforcing interface controls to meet system performance requirements in collaboration with a design team.

  • Utilizing written and oral communication to interface with customers, subcontractors and vendors as well as teammates.

  • Managing and supervising installations, repair, maintenance and test tasks for both production components and experimental systems

  • Contributing to development of formal academic and experiential-based training for corporate and customer users, including basic principles of operations, specific system operation, mission planning and execution, normal and emergency procedures

  • Performing other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline with at least 10 years’ experience, including 5 years of practical experience in flight test and evaluation. A Senior level person in this category is responsible for providing supervision and guidance to other flight test engineers on multiple projects. May fly on board the test aircraft if required for execution of test events.

  • Allowable substitutions: An additional 5 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the master’s degree.

  • Ability to participate in remote test locations for extended working hours on a non-routine basis.

  • The candidate must be in sufficient physical condition to endure extended periods outdoors in conditions such as extreme heat/cold and be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills and experience/comfort briefing all levels of personnel.

  • A proven track record in report writing is also required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Test Pilot School graduates (USAF, USN, Empire, EPNER or National) preferred

  • Experience coordinating with national test ranges, UAV Centers of Excellence and government Proving Grounds.

  • Demonstrated expertise in airspace and range management, FAA certification requirements and systems engineering disciplines associated with a flight test/demonstration program.

  • Experience in operational unmanned systems, aviation safety and a private pilot certificate are highly desired.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based collaborative resources such as SharePoint and Microsoft Teams
