PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Responsible for the financial and operating management of a portfolio of Interline agreements with touch points in operations, commercial, industrial development, service design, legal, regulatory affairs, finance and risk management providing highly defined and detailed agreement guidance and direction tied to business opportunities beneficial to CPKC relating to Interline agreements. Responsible for supporting regulated Interswitching and reciprocal switching processes in Canadian and US territories. Work towards leveraging a high level of institutional expertise, historical knowledge and agreement insight to further identify opportunities to drive financial benefit to CPKC by applying specialized and specific and critical thinking to solve problems and make recommendations for actions eliminating cost or identifying additional revenue.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Will support territory coverage and monthly validation of all agreement related data and reporting requirements
Will analyze and review all potential areas for new agreements and develop and circulate business cases for improved operations and other benefits to CPKC that come through Interline agreements
Implement and execute identified business opportunities relating to Interline agreements and work with Commercial Line of Business, Operations, Strategy, Industrial Development, Service Design, Engineering, Finance, Regulatory Affairs, Risk Management and Legal Services to progress changes beneficial to CPKC
Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities through stakeholder engagement designed to enhance efficiencies and improve processes. Guides, motivates, nurtures and develops teams of cross-functional participants to complete high standard senior level analysis and recommendations
Utilizing varied and sophisticated technological resources reviews and assesses on a monthly basis the revenue and expense data relating to Interline Agreements and authorizes within prescribed DOMA payment and billing to accounting for settlement
As agreement expert for critical Interline projects in territory accountable to keep Director apprised of project status’ including risks, resourcing, timelines, and value extraction to CPKC
Support the integration of existing processes within Interline agreements so that legacy CP and KCS processes are streamlined and brought together and aligned in common processes under CPKC. Focus given to alignment of budgeting and variance accountability i.e. accruals, audits, rate adjustments, data validation and authorization of all Interline agreements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Post-Secondary Education or a University Degree Business or Finance
5 + years relevant experience required
Railroad knowledge and experience in operations, commercial or legal is essential
Application expertise: BPC (Business Planning & Consolidation), Windows and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access). Intermediate to advanced capabilities with Excel;
Expert knowledge and experience with CPKC budget, forecast, accrual, actual and balance sheet processes
Expert knowledge and understanding of CPKC business processes and application of agreements or tariffs
Ability to quickly learn, apply and lead team through new concepts
Ability to prioritize and work under the pressure of continuous deadlines providing accurate and high quality reports
Ability to set and meet deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
Strong project management and presentation skills
Strong verbal and communication skills and ability to effectively communicate to all levels at CPKC
Knowledge: identify the acquired information or concepts that relate to a specific discipline
Skills/abilities: identify technical skills and abilities required to do the job

Management Conductor Program:
