The TD Insurance Bodily Injury Claims Department is responsible for delivering ease and value to our customers through simple, fast and fair claims resolution. This position reports to the Team Leader, Claims Services.

As a Bodily Injury Claims Advisor you'll be responsible for handling complex bodily injury compensation (tort) claims. This includes a full, unbiased investigation of liability and an assessment of the value of the claim (quantum). You'll also interact with Plaintiff and Defence Counsel on a regular basis; some travel may be required.

*Make an Impact: *

  • Promptly and thoroughly investigate claims regarding liability, injuries and other accident-related damages by pursuing the investigation to a logical conclusion

  • Establish and maintain substantial case volumes by adhering to standard processes and best practices which include identification, notification, claims settlement authority and reporting to Major Claims

  • Document claims with a high degree of accuracy in a clear and concise manner

  • Manage indemnity and expense to ensure reasonable cost management principles and practices

*Experience Growth: *

  • Build trusted business relationships with the plaintiff counsel to resolve claims files in a fair, professional and timely manner

  • Proactive collaboration with Defence Counsel ensuring best practices are delivered throughout the claims process

  • Support other TD Insurance Business Lines during critical events and peak volumes. Partner Claims Teams include:

  • First Response Center

  • Catastrophe Claims

  • Automobile & Residential Claims

*Cultivate our Culture of Care: *

  • Remain in consistent contact (in person where practical) with all unrepresented claimants to maintain a relationship of trust and resolve minor to moderate claims in a timely manner

  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with third party claimants, witnesses, health care professionals, law enforcement personnel and forensic experts to establish and maintain their cooperation and/or collaboration

  • Participate fully as a member of the team and contribute to a positive work environment

Job Requirements

What You Need to Succeed

  • A minimum of one year of Bodily Injury adjusting experience, or minimum two years of Accident Benefits experience, or minimum two years of litigation experience

  • Knowledge or experience with the current Rules of Civil Procedure

  • Ability to prioritize and deliver on standard claims tasks in a timely manner and with high attention to detail

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills and strong aptitude for client service

  • An analytical skillset with proven negotiation capabilities

  • Can effectively function in a fast-paced, multifaceted and changing environment

  • Ability to work in a team-based environment while performing tasks independently and with minimal supervision

  • Ability to work irregular hours in order to schedule activities around availability of key contacts or events

  • Flexibility; can adapt to occasional or frequent overnight travel as well as daily travel to other locations. Some travel required outside of business hours

  • Candidates actively pursuing their Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation and/or other relevant continuing education are preferred
