Shell Jr. Trader - Crude Oil in Calgary, Alberta

The Jr Trader – Crude Oil role is responsible for profitable contributions to Shell’s Canadian Crude Oil Trading team. The role is responsible for supporting the development of supply and demand analytics across North America; assist in global flow modeling, and development of tradable strategies.

The Junior Trader is expected to support a team of traders in originating new business with existing and new counterparties, building profitable relationships with producers, refiners, and midstream carriers.

Accountabilities:

  • Work alongside team of Senior Traders to profitably trade Canadian benchmark grades and function as internal market maker

  • Support the development of market analysis and fundamental insights through in-depth collaboration with the Analyst team

  • Work closely with other Shell Trading offices around the globe to understand current flows and anticipate future changes

  • Further assist the Fundamentals Analyst team in development and modeling of sophisticated supply & demand models

  • Properly hedge complex positions

  • Maintain a view and communicate key market dynamics to wider NA Crude Trading team

  • Originate new business and identify the deal space that allows for mutually beneficial deal constructs

  • Holding a curiosity of all business across the Shell Trading Canada desks, providing frequent opportunity for collaboration

Skills & Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis

  • Min 3+ years of experience in the Crude Oil Trading Industry specializing in analytics and trade execution

  • Python or R coding capability is a requirement, with experience in modeling automation

  • Sound understanding of relevant regulatory framework and business controls.

  • Experience in of executing profitable trading strategies

  • Capable of building customer relationships and executing structural deals

  • Demonstrate a strong risk appetite

  • Ability to manage complex pricing and logistical exposures

  • Experience in developing and monetizing views basis fundamental analysis

  • Enter transactions into deal entry system and ensure they are accurately reflected in daily PnL/exposure reports
