Your Opportunity

Stantec is currently looking for an Intermediate Cost Controller to be part of our team on a permanent full-time position. Reporting to the project controls manager, the Intermediate Cost Controller will provide the project controls manager and project managers with viable information for effective management and cost control of the various projects and will be accountable for implementing robust processes, checks and balances to determine Budget, Actual Cost, Gross Margin, and Estimate at Completion (EAC’s) of projects. The Cost Controller must be a champion of Project Controls and change management practices, contributing to the skill development of team members and building capacity for successful project execution.

Your Key Responsibilities

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Optimize cost control tools and processes in compliance with the delivery strategy specific to each of the various projects.

  • Develop and implement project and change management cost control strategies and methods using Stantec’s cost control systems and tools

  • Participate in the preparation of the required management plans and ensure follow-up and control to identify discrepancies.

  • Provide support for the development of the detailed work breakdown structure (WBS) and cost breakdown structure (CBS).

  • Carry out project budgetary planning, and cost monitoring, change management, project forecasting, and closeout.

  • Apply best cost change management techniques and strategies.

  • Contribute to establishing Rules of Credit for measuring engineering, procurement, and execution progress

  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and ad hoc cost control and project progress reports, cost variance analysis reports, change logs, and dashboards, based on established standardized criteria in terms of content and presentation (budgets, commitments, changes, variances, performances), and according to the approved work breakdown structure.

  • Interface with the project planner/scheduler to support resource loading, project planned, creation of baseline cost/labor distributions, changes, and forecasts

  • Ensure regular communication with project team and other stakeholders regarding program Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), current budget, actual cost and forecast to complete. Monitor, analyze and discuss discrepancies and propose corrective measures.

  • Identify, evaluate, and communicate financial risks and contingency planning with the project controls manager / project managers.

  • Control the quality of all project management reports/dashboards to keep compliance with Stantec standards.

  • Provide the technical support to required team members to ensure the project cost control systems and processes are maintained to Stantec standards.

  • Participate in regular meetings with project managers and other stakeholders (internal and external) to review the progress of the project and the achievement of project objectives and results.

  • Other related duties assigned.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • In-depth knowledge of project finance, change management, and Earned Value Management obtained through experience and education.

  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams), SharePoint and Power BI.

  • Experience in using cost system software (e.g. Oracle, PRISM).

  • Experience in the operation and analysis of databases, software, as well as data retrieval methodologies.

  • Strong analytical skills to review cost control information and ensure accuracy as well as identify issues, concerns, and potential mitigations.

  • Excellent time management skills detailed oriented and resourceful. Must be able to successfully work both collaboratively and independently.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with aptitude in building relationships and credibility with professionals at any level in the organization.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 year experience in mining or energy Project Cost Control or Change Coordinator Role.

  • Cost control, progress tracking, and Change management experience is required.

  • University degree/diploma in engineering, finance, accounting, project management is preferred or combination of relevant experience and education.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or AACE Certification is considered an asset.

  • Construction / field experience is considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of Primavera P6 Software is considered an asset.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • Lower Mainland $63,200 - Lower Mainland $91,600 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
