Southwest District Health (SWDH) is recruiting a part-time (18 hours per week)Clinical Assistant (Breastfeeding Peer Counselor)to join the dedicated group of public health professionals in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program and the Division of Family and Clinic Services.

    As aBreastfeeding Peer Counselorand public health employee, you will serve an active role in improving the health of your community. As part of a small, but mighty team, you will support new mothers in this exciting opportunity to promote healthy breastfeeding practices. You’ll share your breastfeeding expertise with pregnant and postpartum participants in the WIC program, while facilitating nurturing relationships that empower parents in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Southwest District Health (SWDH).

    This position requires the completion of the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Training program within 6 months from the date of hire. To be eligible as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, you must have successfully breastfed at least one child for 6 months.

    This is a part-time non-benefitted position for applicants looking to work less than 20 hours per week.

    This position may include a teleworking option from within Idaho.

    Typical Duties:

    Candidates must be able to complete the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation and meet all the mandatory qualifications of the position.

  • Interviews clients to assess breastfeeding understanding and challenges.

  • Assists pregnant and post-partum participants in identifying personal barriers to breastfeeding and provides education to overcome them.

  • Supports informed decision making.

  • Develops breastfeeding support plans with participants.

  • Promotes breastfeeding, offering support and education based on client needs.

  • Delivers client-focused services in accordance with SWDH and Idaho WIC Program policy and procedures.

  • Provides referrals to SWDH community resources.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    You must possess all the minimum qualifications listed below to qualify for this position. All required experience and/or education must be listed under the work history section of this application OR on your resume and must include a detailed explanation of your roles and responsibilities at each relevant employer.

    To be eligible as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, you must have successfully breastfed at least one child for 6 months.

    Minimum Qualifications (MQ):

  • Some Knowledge of health and nutrition need of adults and children, typically gained through either 2-4 relevant college courses, 6 months to 2 years of entry-level related work experience, or a combination of coursework and experience demonstrating the necessary knowledge.

  • Approximately Six (6) months of related work experience in the following areas:

    • Interviewing and eliciting personal information

      • Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals

      • Recording information accurately and legibly

    MQ Specialty :

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

    Ideal Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities :

  • Experience with breastfeeding
