Nevada County is seeking an Airport Service Worker-Temporary. This is the journey-level class in the series, fully qualified to independently perform the full range of duties. Incumbents may provide training and guidance to less experienced employees, and serve as liaison between airport users and management. Furthermore, they refuel and service general aviation aircraft.

An Airport Service Worker-Temporary are an integral part of the county airport whose mission is to provide an exceptional airport in service to our communities and its core values are safety and security! This position is crafted for individuals who have graduated from high school, with experience in general maintenance of roads, buildings or equipment and/or in airport operations. No college degree is required. Knowledge of basic record-keeping practices and principles? That's a plus!

This position is temporary, part-time.This temporary, part-time employee works on average 20-24 hours per week but no more than 29 hours per week, for a maximum of 1000 hours per fiscal year. Temporary employees earn sick leave, but are not eligible for other vacation or holiday pay, and are not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits, or CalPERS.

Education and Experience Required

Level I:

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade

AND

Six months of experience in general maintenance of roads, buildings or equipment and/or in airport operations, including basic record keeping.

Level II (in addition to the above):

One year of experience at a level equivalent to Nevada County's classification of Airport Service Worker I.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Mobility to reach, bend, twist, grasp, kneel and climb.

  • Manual dexterity to operate precision tools and equipment.

  • Strength, stamina and mobility to perform physical labor and lift and carry equipment, tools and supplies.

  • Ability to climb a 10 foot ladder and drag 2" diameter fueling hose and nozzle to top of ladder.

  • Vision to read handwritten and printed materials and a computer screen, and to inspect facilities and equipment.

  • Hearing and speech to communicate in person and by telephone.

  • Working in exposure to inclement weather and temperature extremes.

  • Willingness and ability to work unusual schedules and multiple shifts during emergencies or during periods of fire fighting activities.

Sick Leave:

Temporary County employees shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for each thirty (30) hours worked. Temporary County employees can accrue a maximum of 80 hours of sick leave which may be carried over from one fiscal year to the next.

Medical Benefits:

Temporary employees whose assignments average 30 hours per week or more are eligible to enroll in County-sponsored medical benefits.

    The Airport Service Worker will work various assignments to ensure the airport runs efficiently and in a safe manner. Some duties may include refueling of aircrafts, maintenance of roads, buildings and equipment. In addition, candidate will handle cash or credit card transactions and use basic office skills to record data and information, respond to customers and to run office equipment.
