Job Title: R&D ChemistJob Description
We are seeking a motivated and skilled R&D Chemist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the development of new compounds for new product developments, as well as improving current compounds for performance, efficiency, and price competitiveness. You will provide technical support to Production and Sales, as well as technical service to customers and potential customers.
Responsibilities
Analyze compounds and record data, including competitors when needed, to determine physical and chemical properties for the development of compounds.
Develop and issue new formulations for new compounds based on requirements and specifications from customers (FDA, Automotive & W/C Specifications) and market demand trends.
Investigate the applicability of new and old formulations to replace raw materials, enhancing performance and minimizing cost while maintaining quality standards.
Review formulas for accuracy and ensure compliance with government regulations.
Conduct color matching for new and existing formulations to detect color variations.
Write color correction guidelines for new and existing compounds.
Issue raw material substitutions as needed.
Work with HSE in developing and updating Safety Data Sheets (SDS) as needed.
Prepare Technical Data Sheets for customers.
Generate ideas for new product development of compounds and research feasibility in terms of profitability, resource availability, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Ensure all tests are performed with accuracy, completeness, and in compliance with established standards.
Evaluate formulations via proper lab verification methods, making necessary adjustments and recommendations for improvements in the process for pilot line or production line trial formulation.
Attend internal production trials to ensure new formulation samples are made as designed, making necessary processing condition changes during the trial for quality and efficiency.
Attend monthly QA/QC meetings to analyze and determine customer complaints and returns, providing input on corrective and preventive actions to improve overall quality and service levels.
Evaluate production trial compounds for designed chemical, physical, and rheological properties.
Essential Skills
BS in Chemistry or related field.
2+ years of hands-on PVC method development experience within a manufacturing environment.
Hands-on formulation and re-formulation experience.
Good technical knowledge with PVC material and application experience in formulating.
Ability to research, evaluate, and implement new compounds.
Expertise in chemistry, understanding surface-interface properties, and surface characterization.
Work Environment
The work environment includes a laboratory setting where you will use various laboratory equipment and technologies. You may also participate in production trials, ensuring the quality and efficiency of the manufacturing process. Expect to adhere to safety standards and procedures, and you may need to update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) as required.
