Position Title: Risk Informed Initiatives Project Manager

PAY RANGE: Min: $116,600 Mid: $155,400 Max: $194,300

Company Overview: Wolf Creek Generating Station is Kansas' first nuclear power generating station, providing electric generation for Evergy and KEPCo. Wolf Creek has been safely providing clean, reliable energy to the citizens of Kansas and Missouri since 1985. The plant generates about 1,200 megawatts of electricity, which is enough energy to power more than 800,000 homes.

What we are looking for: Wolf Creek has an immediate opening for a full-time Project Manager, to work within the Regulatory Affairs group based in Burlington, KS. The Project Manager will actively engage and oversee implementation of:

  • 10 CFR 50.69, Risk-Informed Categorization and Treatment of Structures, Systems and Components for Nuclear Power Reactors, for Wolf Creek. 50.69 is a voluntary regulation that allows nuclear power plants to categorize structures, systems and components (SSCs) according to their risk-informed safety significance and then adjust the treatment applied to these SSCs commensurate with their safety significance.

  • NEI 06-09, Risk-Informed Technical Specifications Initiative 4b. Known as Risk Informed Completion Times (RICT), it is a voluntary initiative for implementation of a generic Technical Specifications improvement that establishes a risk management approach for extensions of completion times for certain Limiting Conditions for Operation.

  • AP 29-009, Surveillance Test Risk Informed Documented Evaluation (STRIDE) Process. The approach for performing risk-informed evaluations of proposed changes to Technical Specification Surveillance Test Intervals for those surveillance tests whose frequencies are controlled by the Surveillance Frequency Control Program, as described by AP 29-011, Surveillance Frequency Control Program (SFCP).

Scheduled Work Hours/Location:

We offer a 4 day work week, Monday – Thursday, with a hybrid remote option to work from home one day per week on Monday.

Many of our employees commute from nearby cities, with Burlington being the nearest town 10 minutes away. Wolf Creek Generating Station is approximately 40 minutes from Emporia, 60 minutes from Topeka, 45 minutes from Ottawa, and 75 minutes from Olathe.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

Project Manager responsible for Risk Informed Initiatives implementation at Wolf Creek, which encompasses the following:

  • Station advocate for Risk Informed Initiatives

  • Manage budget

  • Manage personnel assigned to 50.69 team

  • Develop and implement 50.69 Alternative Treatment plan for the following programs:

  1. Quality Requirements [10 CFR 50 Appendix B]

  2. In-service Inspection [10 CFR 50.55a(g)]

  3. ASME XI Repair & Replacements, Applicable portions, with limitation [10 CFR 50.55a(g)]

  4. Seismic Qualification [Portions of Appendix A to 10 CFR Part 100]

  5. In-service Testing [10 CFR 50.55a(f)]

  6. Environmental Qualification [10 CFR 50.49]

  7. Applicable Portions of IEEE Standards [10 CFR 50.55a(h)]

  8. Maintenance Rule [10 CFR 50.65]

  9. Deficiency Reporting [10 CFR Part 21]

  10. Event Reporting [10 CFR 50.55(e)]

  11. Notification Requirements [10 CFR 50.72, 50.73]

  12. Local Leak Rate Testing [Appendix J]

  • Issue periodic status report

  • Participate in industry risk informed initiatives

  • Risk informed initiative training

  • Develop plant procedures and processes to implement 50.69

  • Update management on status of risk informed initiative activities

  • Develop plant procedures and processes to perform biannual system audits and reviews

  • Identify and coordinate RICT opportunities

  • Identify and coordinate STRIDEs opportunities

  • Coordinate with PRA group with Alternate Treatment requests for prioritization and workload levelization

  • Develop ROI metric for implementation of 50.69

  • Duties as assigned by supervision

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and 20 years of relevant experience or a bachelor's degree and 12 years of relevant experience.

Relevant experience is defined as professional level experience in project management, operation, accredited training, engineering, maintenance in a nuclear power plant or utility industry.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:

This position requires the ability to: read, analyze, and interpret the complex documents; make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics to top management, and/or boards of directors.

This position requires the ability to: apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases; deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to pass vision requirements associated with Company physical in order to read detailed engineering prints and drawings and inspect equipment installations and job sites.

This position requires the ability to work in a moderately noisy environment (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
