The Walt Disney Company Manager, Product Development in Burbank, California

The Disney Music Group (DMG) is the music hub for TWDC, encompassing all aspects of music commercialization and marketing: recorded music (Walt Disney Records and Hollywood Records), Disney Music Publishing, and Disney Concerts. DMG distributes music both physically and digitally, and also licenses music throughout the world in various forms of media including television, print, gaming, and consumer products.

The Manager, Product Development will also be responsible for managing the Music Legacy Library and special projects as assigned.

Responsibilities:

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

  • Manages the approval of the graphic elements related to all digital and physical products for Hollywood Records (HWR), from creation to completion. This includes creating work orders, coordinating corrections with the Creative team via collaboration with our internal partners to maintain deadlines. This also includes providing templates, artwork and general direction to the Creative team as needed.

  • QC’s product covers in Photoshop to ensure spec requirements for our digital partners.

  • Uploads digital covers to our distribution partners and sends notification for cover association which can include embargo instructions.

  • Archives digital covers in our internal asset management system associating the correct metadata and file naming per our standard operating procedure.

  • Fulfills cover and art requests from various departments throughout DMG, Disney and outside partners.

  • Fulfill artwork requests for sales, marketing and other departments. This involves researching products in our repertoire system and assets on various internal platforms.

  • Handles playlist cover requests in our work management application, which involves working with Sales and/or Marketing on cover direction, converting the request to a Work Order, routing for approval and delivery of final files.

  • Entering the Bill of Materials (BOM) for packaging in our distribution partner’s system.

  • Attending weekly staff/production schedule meetings and updating the schedule.

  • Managing a direct report who will assist in all tasks above.

MUSIC PUBLISHING

Sheet Music Folio Development

  • Manage each folio (project) from the initial concept to completion.

  • Responsible for managing timelines and delivering assets to the licensee (artwork, label copy, splits, sheet music, audio).

  • Route folio layouts (cover, interior, and sheet music) to internal and external parties for approval.

  • Manage/maintain relationships with various publishers. Pitch content from new releases or new folio concepts, manage expectations and improve processes when necessary.

  • Route social media assets from our partners to marketing for approval and delivery.

Concept Approvals/Licensing

  • Arrangement requests for concerts - receive request from the licensee. Check with the Disney concerts team to make sure there are no conflicts. Review sheet music and route to external parties as needed.

  • Print/Reprint approvals - approve the use of lyrics or sheet music excerpts to be used in textbooks, research papers, magazines, etc.

  • Assist in piracy take-downs.

  • Work with licensing team on new potential licensees.

Manage Music Legacy Library

  • Upload digital sheet music from film sessions to an internal archive database.

  • Safeguard assets by overseeing archival process, final QC prior to uploading, send and retrieve assets to/from storage.

  • Perform various sheet music and cue sheet research requests.

  • Deliver sheet music to various departments in need (Concerts, International, Parks).

Music Sheet Transition Project

  • Oversee and spearhead the music sheet transition from our partner to a deep archive. This will involve a potential temporary hire to help with the transition of digitizing, storing the assets safely and moving to deep storage.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in production, product development or the music industry.

  • Strong technical aptitude required for various database, time management and archiving systems.

  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented with ability to handle multiple tasks daily.

  • Ability to manage self and others, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills with a robust work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred

  • Knowledge of music industry and ability to read music preferred

  • Knowledge and experience in both creative and Microsoft applications and systems such as Adobe Creative Cloud preferred.

The hiring range for this position in California is $79,900 to $103,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
