Crane Aerospace & Electronics is seeking to hire an Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Specialist in Burbank, CA .

The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist will use established procedures and work under general supervision of the Environmental Health and Safety Manager to implement and maintain company policies adhering to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations. This role is involved in the design and development by the EH&S Department of the manufacturing, work areas and work procedures and implements environmental, health and safety initiatives. The incumbent shall be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the environmental health and safety field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complex tasks, multitasks and stays focused. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations.

  • Create, maintain, and update safety and environmental procedures/programs in accordance with applicable regulations.

  • Implement and monitor company environment, health, and safety (EHS) programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental health and safety regulations.

  • Focus on continuous improvement of EHS programs in processes, systems, and products.

  • Engage all employees to take ownership of EHS, conduct safety audits, safety committee meetings, ergonomic evaluations, and emergency supply inspections.

  • Advise management of conditions requiring corrective actions.

  • Conduct accident investigations to determine thorough root cause and produce and maintain necessary documentation.

  • Conduct PPE assessments.

  • Supply PPE

  • Conduct job hazard assessments to identify and mitigate hazards in the workplace.

  • Advise manufacturing departments on accident-prevention and safety enhancements.

  • Coordinate safety training classes, schedules, and programs.

  • Conduct new hire safety orientation.

  • Keep current with changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization and communicate them appropriately.

  • Conduct Storm Water inspections and sample collections.

  • Conduct SPCC Inspections

  • Obtain and renew all required EHS related permits.

  • Prepare and file all reports required by permits and regulatory agencies.

  • Maintain the site pollution prevention plan and sustainability project identification and execution.

  • Assist in instructing departmental personnel on the proper handling of chemicals, GHS labeling and disposal of hazardous waste.

  • Obtain waste analysis and accumulation of data required for proper profiling, labeling, placarding, and transportation.

  • Manage the hazardous materials and waste storage areas; guide receiving and factories for proper storage of hazardous materials and waste as well as waste minimization projects.

  • Coordinate with hazardous waste transport company for proper removal and disposal of waste from site.

  • Track hazardous waste, their disposal and maintain documentation including account billings.

  • Identify and investigate methods to reduce hazardous waste by alternative manufacturing, materials, processes, and recycling opportunities; Implement recommended changes.

  • Perform weekly checks for proper storage, labeling, disposal of hazardous waste and materials and maintain inspection log sheets.

  • Be a participant of the Emergency Response Team.

  • Work with stakeholders in the organization during space planning, building expansions and/or other changes in facilities or work areas to ensure EHS requirements and regulations are met.

  • Assist in the implementation of EHS projects such as hazardous communication training, air inventory logs, carne and hoist safety program, PPE selection, machine guarding, lockout/tagout training, etc.

  • Maintain current chemical inventory and approve new chemicals to the facility.

  • Perform other duties as required by Management.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:

0-3 years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment

Knowledge:

Both business knowledge and technical understanding in EH&S area

Excellent working knowledge and understanding of applicable environmental health & safety rules, laws and codes including CFR’s, CCR's, EPA, SCAQMD, DOT, RCRA and OSHA/CALOSHA.

A basic understanding of industrial chemicals and their properties.

Skills/Abilities:

Ability to use Windows based software programs such as Word and Excel, PowerPoint

Capability to guide teams without a formal management role.

Excellent communication skills

Strong teamwork, interpersonal, problem-solving, and analysis skills.

Ability to work well with representatives of government and regulatory agencies.

Exhibit sound judgment and professionalism in all situations.

Self-directed, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and assess priorities effectively.

Willingness to investigate potentially hazardous situations.

Demonstrated ability to conduct stand up presentations.

Demonstrated ability to interact with internal and external contacts.

Education/Certification:

BS degree in Environmental Safety and Health Science or equivalent experience.

Certifications in First Aid, CPR, AED, HAZWOPER, Emergency Response, CIH, Forklift Trucks, Fall Protection, & DOT are preferred.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in EHS

Eligibility Requirement: This position requires access to controlled data or information and therefore only US persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Working Conditions

Working conditions can be indoor and outdoor in a manufacturing & office work environment.

Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps, respirators and any other required PPE.

May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, wet weather, confined spaces, dust or fumes, Chemicals spills and or fire.

Monday-Friday (first shift), Flexible schedule and willing to work overtime and weekends if necessary.

Salary range: $92,000 to $105,000. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications.
