Diageo Distillery Operator in Bundaberg, Australia

Job Description :

The Bundaberg Distillery produces approximately 5 million litres of high strength potable spirit (Bundaberg Rum) per year through the fermentation and distillation of sugar cane molasses. The distillery is classified as a large dangerous goods facility, holding approximately 10 million litres of maturing spirit in white oak vats to satisfy the 2 year wood maturation requirement for rum.

The distillery also packages up to 100 thousand cases of full strength bottled product per annum and hosts approximately 70 thousand visitors every year through its tourist facility. The distillery employs 34 full time staff in addition to a number of casual employees.

The purpose of the distillery operator is to ensure quality production by maintaining high standards in the production process to ensure the final product meets quality specifications. You will monitor processes by overseeing the fermentation and distillation processes in a rotational shift roster (24/5 plus reasonable OT as required.) to ensure the plant is running efficiently and effectively. Safety compliance will be maintained throughout this by ensuring operations follow safety regulations and protocols to protect both workers and equipment.

So, what does this role look like for you?

Monitor the Fermentation/Distillation process, performing analysis, recording results, and taking action as required to keep the processes within intended control parameters.

Work safely and follow SOP’s and WI as trained.

Work as directed to perform supplementary tasks within your abilities as instructed by your line manager.

Maintain your work areas in a clean, tidy, organised condition (GMP, 5S)

Transfer of alcohol site wide and to bulk tankers.

What about you?

Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)

An understanding of Fermentation/Distillation Operation or the demonstrated proficiency/ability to quickly acquire this knowledge is desired.

Previous exposure to operational environment on industrial site would be beneficial.

A Forklift Ticket would be advantageous but not necessary.

Insight of and experience working in and around hazardous areas would be beneficial but not essential.

Previous experience working safely within a large dangerous goods facility would be highly regarded
