Job Summary: The surgical technologist assists the surgeon by anticipating his needs and passing the correct instruments and equipment at the proper time. The scrub technician is responsible for all instruments, sponges, needles and blades during the procedure and performs counts with the circulating nurse at the beginning and end of the case.

Duties: The surgical technologist assists the surgeon by anticipating his needs and passing the correct instruments and equipment at the proper time. The scrub technician is responsible for all instruments, sponges, needles and blades during the procedure and performs counts with the circulating nurse at the beginning and end of the case.

Education and Experience: 1. Completion of a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists and possession of a certified surgical technologist credential administered by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization; or 2. Completion of a training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Public Health Service Commissioned Corps; or 3. Written verification by a health care facility of employment as a surgical technologist for a cumulative period of one year occurring within the four years immediately prior to January 1, 2015. 4. Minimum of one (1) year experience assisting in operating room preferred. 5. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
