Minimum Qualifications Buffalo Psychiatric Center is currently recruiting a Residential Program Specialist to supervise and provide services to individuals with mental illness who live in a State Operated Community Residence (SOCR). Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.Minimum Qualifications: Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program as a Residential Program Specialist if they have 5 years of experience working with individuals diagnosed with mental illness.Substitution – Associate’s degree can substitute for 2 years of specialized experience; a bachelor’s degree can substitute for 4 years of specialized experience; master’s degree in a related field can substitute for 5 years of specialized experience.ORCandidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Residential Program Specialist eligible list.ORCandidates within State Service can be considered transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.ORIn accordance with Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law, this notice advises all employees of the Office of Mental Health of our intention to conduct a non-competitive promotion examination for the position of Residential Program Specialist at Buffalo Psychiatric Center. Permanent appointment may be made by non-competitive promotion of an applicant who meets the position’s minimum qualifications if all requirements of non-competitive promotion are met.The promotion field for the Residential Program Specialist position consists of candidates who have 1 year of permanent service as a Residential Program Assistant 2 including all language parenthetics.
Duties Description As a Residential Program Specialist, you will assist in the management and administration of the SOCR, including:• Providing and monitoring residential program services• Advising residents how to use appropriate coping and living skills to assist in their recovery• Reviewing and coordinating resident admission and discharge planning program• Scheduling resident activities and supervision to ensure appropriate staffing levels are met
