Position Summary:

The research laboratory of Dr. Adelaiye-Ogala (https://medicine.buffalo.edu/faculty/profile.html?ubit=remiadel) in the Division of Hematology Oncology (https://medicine.buffalo.edu/departments/medicine/divisions/hematology-oncology.html) , Department of Medicine, Jacobs School of Medicine, and Biomedical Sciences is actively seeking a highly motivated Research Technician with experience in the use of mice to study underlying mechanisms driving therapeutic resistance in genitourinary cancers with emphasis on prostate cancers and kidney cancers. The lab uses preclinical experimental data in clinically relevant cell lines and patient derived xenograft ( PDX ) and/or organoids to test new treatment modalities through animal studies. Research activity will include performing in vivo studies to test investigational compounds/drugs in the pipeline for efficacy and durability, characterization, and maintenance of established and new PDX , functional and biochemical assays. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Development and maintenance of PDX and mouse colony.

  • Perform in vivo experiments in mice, specimen/data collection and analysis.

  • Prepare and perform analysis of tissues and cell extracts to assess molecular activities by PCR /qRT- PCR ), ChIP, western blot, IHC , ELISA and fluorescence imaging.

  • Perform experiments utilizing a variety of immunological techniques, such as: flow cytometry, ELISA , RT- PCR , electrophoresis, fluorescence imaging, etc.

  • Maintain a safe and clean laboratory environment including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials/waste, proper inventory of laboratory materials and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments.

  • Train new undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory techniques.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An associate degree or formal training in biomedical sciences, cancer biology or related fields.

  • 1 or more years of experience in in vivo studies using small animals (mice).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of experience in in vivo studies using small animals (mice).

  • Bachelor degree in biomedical sciences, cancer biology or related fields with background in molecular biology experience in traditional laboratory techniques highlighted above.

  • Experience in proper maintenance of laboratory environment and equipment, as well as proper inventory of laboratory materials.

  • Enthusiastic and highly motivated to learn.
