Description

Haven House Domestic Violence is seeking an energetic, empathetic individual that wants to make and positive impact on the lives of individuals experiencing domestic violence and their children. This position works primarily in the Recreational Room with the children in the shelter. Join the dedicated team of advocates in Erie Countys only license domestic violence shelter.

Shift information : Sunday 4:00pm-10:00pm, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 4:00pm-9:00pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement a variety of creative programs for children of various ages and developmental stages on a daily basis. This will include recreational and educational activities such as arts and crafts, stories, homework assistance, games, songs, sports, outings in the community programming for children and families.

  • Organize and maintain two conducive playroom environments.

  • Organize and maintain a small gym environment.

  • Maintain written reports and documentation as necessary.

  • Enforce shelter regulations regarding playroom and children’s issues and consult with staff regarding any unusual behaviors or incidents.

  • Plan special seasonal events or outings.

  • Practice sensitivity and acceptance of diversity.

  • Sanitize and arrange playroom toys on a regular basis.

  • Participate in Program Meetings, Staff Meetings and Staff Development Sessions.

  • Actively participate in the Child & Family Services QI Initiative.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate’s Degree in Child Development or other closely related degree; or high school diploma with three years of childcare experience (preferably in a paid setting)

  • Valid NYS driver's license and reliable transportation

  • Be able to function as a member of a team.

  • Abide by a smoke-free work environment.

  • Be able to access a multi-level building and engage in lifting.

  • Be sufficiently active and mobile to participate in and supervise activities.

  • Abide by the code of ethics set forth by the National Association of Social Work (NASW).

  • Adhere to principles of non-violence.

  • Physically capable of lifting, carrying, grasping, standing, sitting with active children throughout the duration of group sessions, preparing snacks, operating small appliances, and ability to access multilevel facility.

  • Prior domestic violence experience preferred

  • Bi-lingual skills (specifically English/Spanish) preferred

Pay Rate: $18 per hour.
