Position Summary:

As a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Geology (https://arts-sciences.buffalo.edu/geology.html) , this position will support the GHub science gateway developed by UB under the leadership of Prof. Briner (PI). GHub host datasets, work flows, and tools to unify ice sheet observations and modeling provide uncertainty quantification, and improve estimates of future sea-level rise. The candidate will work under the direction of Prof Nowicki and Prof Briner and in collaboration with multiple UB faculty and students as well as our external collaborators.

  • The work consists of contributing to the development of GHub datasets and tool capabilities as well as taking a leadership role in interacting with our members and the broader public via outreach and education activities.

  • Advocating and adapting GHub based on community feedback is key to the success of the effort, so the postdoctoral associate will be in communication with GHub members and will be required to present the project at workshop and conferences as well as in publications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in an area of ice sheet science related to Physical Geography or Glaciology

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in:

  • Data compilation and analysis

  • Ice sheet dataset (observations or models)

  • Computing languages such as python or R

  • Presenting at conferences and writing manuscripts,

  • Leadership,

  • Exhibiting independence

  • Networking
