Summary:

The Director of Health Information Management is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a system-wide data quality management plan and facilitating improvement in overall quality, completeness and accuracy of the documentation and coding within the medical record. Additionally the position has oversight responsibilities for maintaining electronic medical records, ensuring they remain accurate, up-to-date and that practices remain compliant with applicable federal and state regulations for the acute inpatient and outpatient services at all five sites and service lines of Catholic Health (CH). The individual also develops and maintains policies and procedures that will improve and support overall quality of care as well as supporting the revenue cycle and is aligned with organizational goals while promoting timely, accurate and complete coding and medical records. Ensuring proper education, training and quality audits are maintained will be a key function of this individual. The individual will have responsibility for inpatient and outpatient coding, HIM operations and ambulatory coding education and clinical documentation improvement. The director will leverage project management skills, clinical knowledge, coding and documentation knowledge and understanding of regulatory guidelines to continuously improve processes and compliance. The director is the resident expert for health information management, HIPAA and JCAHO requirements and regulations.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Master's degree preferred

  • RHIA required

Candidates with five (5) or more years of Hospital HIM leadership experience may be considered, but must successfully obtain the RHIA credential within the first year of employment.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum five (5) years of hospital HIM leadership experience required

  • Experience with inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory coding and CDI preferred

  • Experience with Epic is desired

  • Experience with managing teams in multiple locations preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring staff

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Flexibility to travel and work throughout Catholic Health on a regular basis

  • This position is not a remote position, so must have the ability to travel daily to worksites

  • Working knowledge of ICD coding, working knowledge of coding for third party payers including CMS guidelines and reimbursement compliance

  • Knowledge of HIPAA, JCAHO and other compliance requirements

  • Demonstrated skill in critical thinking, communication, diplomacy and relationship building required, successfully demonstrated in effectively working with a wide variety of people in both individual and group settings

  • Demonstrated problem solving and inductive reasoning skills, which manifest themselves in creative solutions to operational challenges

  • Demonstrated ability as a strategic leader

  • Organizes and manages work to achieve results and tracks performance so that problems are detected early and prevented
