Position Summary:

The University at Buffalo, School of Dental Medicine seeks a Chair for our Department of Restorative Dentistry (https://dental.buffalo.edu/departments/restorative-dentistry.html) . Restorative Dentistry is the largest of seven academic departments in the SDM . The Chair should have a strong record in predoctoral and postdoctoral teaching in addition to leadership experience, service and scholarly activity.

The Chair will be responsible for:

• Overall administration, strategic leadership, financial stewardship, academic oversight and faculty development. The Department provides education and training to pre-doctoral dental students in the disciplines of operative dentistry, fixed and removable prosthodontics and implant dentistry. It provides advanced education programs in Advanced Education in General Dentistry and Prosthodontics as well as in the Biomaterials masters program.

• Serve as member of the School’s senior leadership team and will be responsible for driving strategic priorities for the department as determined in collaboration with the Dean.

• Work closely with the School’s administration to lead the development and implementation of innovative academic, patient care, and research programs based on the new SDM strategic plan.

• Evaluate and guide the professional development of faculty and staff in the department and will collaborate with faculty and staff throughout the University and affiliated hospitals.

• Focus on obtaining resources for academic and research programs and projects.

• Committed to support teaching activities, interdepartmental and interprofessional education and possess through training and experience a deep understanding of basic and clinical sciences.

• Ability to lead change and adapt to current educational and clinical technology, including but not limited to digital dentistry.

• Reaching out to alumni and others to encourage engagement with the school and philanthropic endeavors.

• Plays a major role in the School’s accreditation and planned curriculum revision.

Minimum Qualifications:

DDS , DMD or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

• Eligibility for dental licensure in New York State.

• Advanced credential, such as a PhD or equivalent degree in a biological science or health-related areas and/or certificate in an ADA approved dental specialty.

• Record of significant scholarship supported by extramural research funding.

• Eligible for academic appointment at the rank of tenured associate or full professor.

• Record of effectiveness and leadership in previous administrative roles.

• Completion of a CODA -accredited certificate program or Advanced Education Program in General Dentistry or a General Practice Residency.

• Previous leadership in a post-graduate educational or interdisciplinary program.

• Participation in national and international scientific and professional organizations are desired.
