Job Title:Assistant Principal

DEPARTMENT:Administration

REPORTS TO:Principal

CLASSIFICATION:Exempt

SALARY RANGE:$88,000 - $98,000 per year

Position Summary:The Assistant Principal is responsible for overall management of

discipline.

Responsibilities:

General

  1. Implement and follow the school's policies and procedures;

  2. Adheres to and enforces board policy, school guidelines, and administrative directives;

  3. Undertake administrative and instructional duties assigned by the Principal;

  4. Work collectively with leadership team in all aspects of school management including

students, staff and partner organizations

  1. Performs other duties as assigned and requested

Instructional Support and Evaluation

  1. Provide professional leadership in organizing, administering, supervising, and evaluating

the effective operation of the school.

  1. Oversee scheduling, instruction, assessment and curriculum;

  2. Develop and implement the rituals, routines, and celebrations that ensure a culture of

academic success;

  1. Coach and support all staff in driving a culture of high achievement;

  2. Support the overall school improvement process including teacher observation,

modeling best practice, and analyzing student data;

  1. Plan effective professional development that is strategic in nature;

  2. Assist in the selection and mentoring of staff

  3. Works as a team member to meet the needs of the school.

Teacher Supervision and Evaluation

Drive implementation of school instructional improvement plan;

  1. Supervise the consistent and fair administration of the approved HSCS APPR Plan;

  2. Contribute towards a safe environment for learning;

  3. Assist in the development and administration of curriculum development alongside the

director of curriculum and instruction

  1. Assessment of learning in collaboration with the director of curriculum and instruction;

  2. Communicate relevant policies and procedures with regard to curriculum, instruction and

assessment to staff and parents;

  1. Facilitate teacher improvement plans with the assistance of the Principal;

  2. Work with and assist faculty in the development of effective classroom discipline and

organization techniques;

  1. Maintain an effective and safe school environment;

  2. Prepare required reports and paperwork such as interim assessments, Regents examinations, teacher evaluations and other paperwork as assigned;

  3. Assist with outreach, teacher recruitment and special events;

  4. Coach teachers on classroom instructional and management techniques;

  5. Assist in the presentation of formal reports to the Board of Trustees and Board

committees as assigned;

  1. Implement and follow policies and procedures for instruction;

  2. Facilitate faculty and staff development related to school culture and instruction; and

  3. Organize school events including open houses and parent conferences.

Qualifications:

• Master's degree in education

• Administrative certification.

• Demonstrated successful teaching experience and other school roles, preferred in an

urban education setting.

• Exhibited leadership in working with professional staff, students, and the community

toward achieving goals.

• Agreement with and commitment to the academic goals, mission, and vision of the

Health Sciences Charter School

• Commitment to accountability

• Demonstrated success in encouraging parental involvement.

• Results-‐oriented individual - a flexible thinker willing to do "whatever it takes" to ensure

student success

Skills:

● Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
