Job Title:Assistant Principal
DEPARTMENT:Administration

CLASSIFICATION:Exempt
SALARY RANGE:$88,000 - $98,000 per year
Position Summary:The Assistant Principal is responsible for overall management of
discipline.
Responsibilities:
General
Implement and follow the school's policies and procedures;
Adheres to and enforces board policy, school guidelines, and administrative directives;
Undertake administrative and instructional duties assigned by the Principal;
Work collectively with leadership team in all aspects of school management including
students, staff and partner organizations
- Performs other duties as assigned and requested
Instructional Support and Evaluation
- Provide professional leadership in organizing, administering, supervising, and evaluating
the effective operation of the school.
Oversee scheduling, instruction, assessment and curriculum;
Develop and implement the rituals, routines, and celebrations that ensure a culture of
academic success;
Coach and support all staff in driving a culture of high achievement;
Support the overall school improvement process including teacher observation,
modeling best practice, and analyzing student data;
Plan effective professional development that is strategic in nature;
Assist in the selection and mentoring of staff
Works as a team member to meet the needs of the school.
Teacher Supervision and Evaluation
Drive implementation of school instructional improvement plan;
Supervise the consistent and fair administration of the approved HSCS APPR Plan;
Contribute towards a safe environment for learning;
Assist in the development and administration of curriculum development alongside the
director of curriculum and instruction
Assessment of learning in collaboration with the director of curriculum and instruction;
Communicate relevant policies and procedures with regard to curriculum, instruction and
assessment to staff and parents;
Facilitate teacher improvement plans with the assistance of the Principal;
Work with and assist faculty in the development of effective classroom discipline and
organization techniques;
Maintain an effective and safe school environment;
Prepare required reports and paperwork such as interim assessments, Regents examinations, teacher evaluations and other paperwork as assigned;
Assist with outreach, teacher recruitment and special events;
Coach teachers on classroom instructional and management techniques;
Assist in the presentation of formal reports to the Board of Trustees and Board
committees as assigned;
Implement and follow policies and procedures for instruction;
Facilitate faculty and staff development related to school culture and instruction; and
Organize school events including open houses and parent conferences.

Qualifications:
• Master's degree in education
• Administrative certification.
• Demonstrated successful teaching experience and other school roles, preferred in an
urban education setting.
• Exhibited leadership in working with professional staff, students, and the community
toward achieving goals.
• Agreement with and commitment to the academic goals, mission, and vision of the
Health Sciences Charter School
• Commitment to accountability
• Demonstrated success in encouraging parental involvement.
• Results-‐oriented individual - a flexible thinker willing to do "whatever it takes" to ensure
student success
Skills:
● Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
