Description

The Digital Enterprise Legal team within BlackRock is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to be based in its Budapest office to join BlackRock’s Budapest Legal Team. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary global team of lawyers who support client technology, data services, privacy, cloud platforms, artificial intelligence applications, and other adjacent areas, while interfacing with multiple business lines and functions in a fast-paced, cutting-edge environment, to strategically support BlackRock’s business operations, including BlackRock’s engineering and product management teams, and compliance.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, forward thinking, organized, resourceful and detail-oriented. Essential job functions include:

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth legal analysis of strategic agreements, data processing agreements (particularly E.U privacy), financial market data licensing agreements, technology agreements, and other complex legal matters.

  • Lead both client and vendor facing negotiations while being able to represent BlackRock’s business objectives, policies, and standard positions.

  • Provide strategic advice to BlackRock’s functional and management teams, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, and with BlackRock’s standards.

  • Identify and mitigate legal risks, offering practical solutions to complex legal challenges, while having a deep understanding of risk and reward balance of a transaction.

  • Structure, draft and review a variety of agreements, ensuring alignment with BlackRock’s business objectives, policies and standard positions.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to finalize terms and conditions that protect BlackRock’s reputation and interests.

  • Work with colleagues in multiple time zones as part of a global team.

Requirements

  • Bar exam from an E.U jurisdiction, and you are admitted to Hungarian or another European bar.

  • At least 5 years post-qualification experience in a top-tier law firm (secondment experience a plus) or an in-house legal department (fintech is a plus).

  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to interact comfortably and communicate clearly with a variety of levels of personnel.

  • Able to manage a large volume of concurrent tasks within specific/tight timeframes, with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness in work.

  • Strong interest in financial technology services (and/or new technologies in general), and the asset management industry, and have the ability and desire to further develop expertise in adjacent areas of law.

  • Strong interest in privacy laws and an understanding of related operational aspects.

  • Strong business and technology (preferably fintech but not necessary) acumen.

  • Capable of both independent work and effective collaboration within a sophisticated legal team, supported by strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple competing, and often evolving priorities and deadlines.

  • Ability to work in BlackRock’s Budapest-based office.

Our hybrid work model
