Hord Family Farms Senior IT Specialist in Bucyrus, Ohio
Are you an accomplished IT professional looking for a unique opportunity to work in an agricultural environment? Interested candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree in IT or a related field and 4-6 years of proven experience in IT remediation services and user support for both hardware and software issues. Other key qualifications include exceptional customer-service skills with a keen sensitivity to the needs of team members; proficiency in Windows operating systems, components, and navigation tools; and a solid understanding of Ethernet networking technologies including TCP/IP, switching, and routing. Experience with Windows Desktop, Windows Server, and MAC operating systems, as well as Active Directory is also highly beneficial. Familiarity with PLC and serial controller integration, Fiber networking, VLAN, and SonicWALL firewalls will set you apart; as will experience creating documentation, conducting end-user training, and producing white-papers. Candidates must also be willing to work in a physically demanding environment and be comfortable with the sights, sounds, and smells that accompany raising livestock and tending the land. The Senior IT Specialist must be willing and able to climb grain legs to install or maintain wireless links and work in tight quarters such as crawl spaces in livestock barns to ensure all technological solutions are seamlessly integrated.

The Hord family is in its 5th generation of family farming, with over 100 years of farming heritage. Headquartered in North Central Ohio and having satellite locations in Pennsylvania and Minnesota, Hord Farms is a pig, cow, and grain farm, striving to raise our animals with care, and utilizing modern and advanced farming practices to be efficient and sustainable. Interested applicants must not have contact with pigs outside of those in the Hord herds.
A Day in the Life:
This key position typically works 7:30am-4pm M-F; though evenings, weekends, and holiday hours may be required to address special projects or emergencies. The Senior IT Specialist is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving IT productivity issues; interacting with Hord team members and vendors in a positive and supportive manner to ensure or restore optimum productivity; following documented workflows, phone logging, ticketing systems, and other established standards; educating team members in safe IT practices; and assisting with equipment repair, maintenance, and installation/setup. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in both farm and office settings and climbing legs/towers to assist with network equipment, in addition to consistently exhibiting ownership of work, follow-through, initiative, and effective communication.
Non-Negotiables:
A Bachelor’s Degree in an IT discipline or related field, or a minimum of 4 years in proven experience working in remediation service and assisting end-users with hardware and software related issues
Experience with Windows operating systems, components, navigation tools, common hardware and software related concepts
Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and solve basic technical problems
Knowledge of Ethernet networking technologies; TCP/IP, switching, routing, etc.
Listening, verbal, written and interpersonal skills
Customer service skills with the ability to remain sensitive and responsive to team member needs
Ability to translate technical information into understandable terms for a variety of audiences
Ability to pay close attention to details and keep meticulous records

What Sets You Apart:
A Master’s Degree in an IT discipline or related field, or a minimum of 6 years in proven experience working in remediation service and assisting end-users with hardware and software related issues
Experience with Windows Desktop, Windows Server, and MAC operating systems, as well as Active Directory
PLC and serial controller integration experience
Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and solve undocumented technical problems
Knowledge of Fiber and Ethernet networking, VLAN, TCP/IP, switching, routing, SonicWALL firewalls, etc.
Being skilled at creating documentation, conducting end-user training, and producing white papers
Self-driven time management skills with effective discernment in prioritizing work
