This is structure and craft work in evaluating, planning, directing and coordinating maintenance care and repair of buildings at the Armed Forces Reserve Center (AFRC) in Brunswick.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Establishing and maintaining a comprehensive inventory of buildings; condition and adequacy assessment

  • Identifying needed repairs; establishing budgetary needs, and

  • Specifying and overseeing repair/construction/reconstruction projects

  • Oversight is exercised over contractors as a Clerk of the Works.

  • Secondary responsibilities include daily operations of building controls, contracted services and basic repair and maintenance of the facility and its systems.

Skills or knowledge required:

  • Knowledge of methods, practices, materials, and equipment associated with building and related mechanical trades.

  • Knowledge of building maintenance.

  • Knowledge of OSHA, fire safety, and life safety guidelines and regulations.

  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions necessary in building maintenance, construction, and repair.

  • Knowledge of agency policies and procedures.

  • Ability to estimate labor and material costs for repair/construction/reconstruction projects.

  • Ability to design and coordinate repair/construction/reconstruction activities.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.

  • Ability to inspect building conditions.

  • Ability to use standard desktop PC applications (word processing, data base, spreadsheet).

  • Ability to plan and oversee the execution of contractual agreements.

  • Ability to analyze and evaluate program and project performance and effectiveness.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Ability to communicate effectively.

  • Ability to write clearly and effectively.

Minimum qualifications:

An Associates Degree in Building Technology and four (4) years experience in the building construction industry and/or building/property management -OR- an acceptable equivalent combination of directly related education, training, and/or experience.
