Job Assignment: PUBLIC HEALTH LAB SPECIALIST-COLLECTION Job Number: 81-0102 Department: 81-EPI and Lab Capacity Grant Pay: $2,513 per month / $14.50 per hour Immediate Supervisor: Public Health Preparedness Manager
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is a full-time, non-exempt position working under the direction of the Public Health Preparedness (PHP) Manager. Funding for this position is from a grant term. Work involves assisting the Public Health Department staff, state, and local government in conducting collection and testing of lab specimens. Responsibilities will include working at the PHEP community testing clinic and in the PHEP programmatic area.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:
- Collection of specimens for testing, reporting results to clients, and data entry of results.
- Scheduling departmental appointments to include assisting at the front test to facilitate lab activities.
- Complete PHEP lab, epidemiological, and programmatic activities.
- Coordinate lab activity ELR transfers to DSHS and correct errors in lab data.
- Act as a PHEP subject matter expert on electronic records system.
- Pursue methods to refine PHEP and public health data processes and collaborate with departmental staff to coordinate efforts.
- Participates in training opportunities to meet learning needs in this position which may require overnight travel.
- Responds in emergency situations which may include a temporarily irregular work schedule.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Works indoors and outdoors. Ability to walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to lift and/ or move up 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Visual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary. May be exposed to electrical, mechanical, or chemical hazards when operating/maintaining office equipment and potential risk of exposure to communicable diseases and blood borne pathogens.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS: Frequent contact with the public, MRC volunteers, employees, healthcare providers and staff, City and State officials in person and by telephone. May encounter home visiting arenas that could be high risk.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Previous medical or healthcare experience preferred.
