Job Description Summary

The Program Specialist II, under general supervision, performs specialist duties for the Texas 4-H Conference Center.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Center Director in planning, scheduling, and implementing all summer camping programs and other youth and adult leadership retreats throughout the year in a managerial role.

  • Assists agents through providing opportunities for camps and leadership training at the Texas 4-H Conference Center and off-site as needed to support their county program plan of work.

  • Develops a year-round natural resource education program at the 4-H Conference Center for schools, youth organizations, teachers, and youth leaders.

  • Facilitates natural resource education program through 4-H Adventure Trek experiences for youth and/or adult audiences.

  • Compiles and distributes Texas 4-H Conference Center program information to Extension agents, 4-H specialists, and administrators via electronic and/or printed documents.

  • Contributes to the Texas 4-H Conference Center website to provide current and relevant program information.

  • Evaluates programs at the Texas 4-H Conference Center.

  • Assists in the procurement of items for T-Shirt Shop and marketing, retailing of such.

  • Assists the Center Director in meeting Texas A&M Programs for Minors and maintaining American Camping Association accreditation and works with Center staff to ensure compliance throughout camps and on property.

  • Assists the Center Director with budgeting processes for educational programs and other departments at the Texas 4-H Conference Center.

  • Recruits, interviews, and hires Texas 4-H Conference Center summer staff. Conducts a two-week training session for summer staff employees.

  • Provides training for Center employees as needed in CPR/First Aid. Also assists with other training such as team building with Center employees.

  • Serves as Challenge Course Manager, overseeing course operations, documentation, certification, and related activities. Is responsible for facilitation of group activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Two years of related experience.

Knowledge Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, database, presentation and spreadsheet applications.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Obtain and maintain safety certifications (First Aid, CPR, AED, Lifeguard, Boating, & Level 1 Roping)

Preferred Other Requirements:

  • Work Environment:

  • On-site office

  • Outdoor camping environment work as necessary

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Maintain physical condition to perform outdoor camping programs

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
