Vail Resorts Senior Manager of Company Communications in Broomfield, Colorado

Job Summary:

We are seeking a talented Senior Manager of Company Communications to lead storytelling and PR campaigns to build awareness and understanding of our business and our values-driven work. In collaboration with colleagues from across the business, you will craft messaging, build PR strategies, and advise leadership on a variety of complex announcements and initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Communications, this is a high impact role with lots of opportunity to think creatively and tell important stories. This role also serves as a leader on the company communications team, which oversees external PR and employee communications.

The ideal candidate is an agile and highly motivated, well-seasoned communications professional that possesses sound judgment and impeccable writing skills. This position offers an incredible opportunity to create highly impactful executive communications for one of the largest players in the Travel + Leisure space. This role will also guide the continued establishment of our Company Communications team, standardizing process, building templates, formalizing messaging, and more.

You will play a leadership role on the Communications team , a central function responsible for promoting Vail Resorts and its values; each of our world-class resorts; and the product that provides guests with unrivaled access to all of them, the Epic Pass. As the supervisor of a PR Manager, you will be expected to develop strong leaders through coaching and professional development.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Proactive strategy setting and storytelling to identify and leverage key communication milestones and opportunities to drive awareness of our company’s values-driven work, including our Environmental and Social Responsibility work;

  • Serve as lead writer for senior executives, especially to internal audiences, including driving the creation and delivery of compelling, executive-level presentation materials (slides, scripts, messaging documents, and media briefs) for Vail Resorts’ senior leadership;

  • Apply superb organizational skills to the management of high-level communications opportunities and projects, both internally and externally;

  • Build powerful relationships with external media, and multiple internal partners across Vail Resorts including Public Affairs, HR, IT, Operations, all Marketing functions and other divisions to achieve business goals;

  • Serve as a leader in Public Affairs, HR, and Marketing, working closely with other leaders to achieve Vail Resorts’ strategic priorities;

  • Successfully manage complex, fast-moving and unexpected communications challenges;

  • Manage and support crisis communications, as needed, and

  • Consistently be striving to growth and develop yourself as a leader. Be focused on unlocking the potential of our talent, including through the management of a direct report.

Job Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of communications experience with proven experience in media relations, project management, and executive communications;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field;

  • Proven experience in process improvement, change management and overall operational excellence;

  • Ability to anticipate potential reputational issues and exercise high judgment, particularly in narrow timeframes;

  • Ability to translate complicated concepts into clear, compelling language for audiences ranging from key stakeholders to media to guests;

  • Outstanding attention to detail;

  • A highly collaborative approach that brings stakeholders along;

  • Ability to manage constantly changing priorities;

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with people at all levels of the organization;

  • Ability to easily transition from high level strategic thinking to creative and detailed execution

  • Proven experience and success in leading and building effective teams;

  • Strong verbal and written communication and presenting skills.

The expected Total Compensation for this role is $89,100.00 - $120,000.00 + annual bonus. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.

Vail Resorts offers a ‘Hybrid’ work environment for Broomfield-based roles where employees must live within 50 miles of the Broomfield office and work on-site Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and have flexibility to work off-site on Mondays and Fridays.
