EDUCATION SPECIALIST

We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced Education Specialist to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an experienced Education Specialist for our Families w/ Children facility located in the Williamsbridge area of the Bronx. As the Education Specialist , you will play a pivotal role in our organization, supporting the children who attend our afterschool program. The Education Specialist will encourage academic excellence while also providing a fun and safe space for the children in our facility. ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS, INC.

Homes for the Homeless, Inc. (HFH) is a non-profit social services organization operating family shelters throughout NYC that serve as a hub of opportunity for families both residing in shelter as well as those in the neighboring community. On-site programs range from childcare, early childhood education centers, afterschool clubs and programs, and youth recreation activities, such as sports teams, to housing assistance, case management, parenting workshops, career and job vocational training, support groups and substance abuse assistance, and family engagement and recreation events. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop lesson plans and assist students with homework and school projects.

  • Lead activities with groups of students and assist program supervisor in the planning of enrichment activities and trips.

  • Willingness to flexibility and openness to classroom scheduling adjustments.

  • Maintain a clean, bright, and active classroom environment.

  • Participate in staff meetings, conferences, and training.

  • Assist in book fairs, holiday parties and activities, plays, etc.

  • Support program supervisor with daily operations.

  • Organize program logistics, such as schedules, lesson plan collection, snack and space, trips, supply requests, and programmatic needs.

  • Perform other duties and tasks assigned by Recreation Program Supervisor.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • One of the following Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in child development, elementary education, recreation or a related field, and two years direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a childcare program or related field of work.

  • School age Child Care Credential or other Office recognized credential specific to the school-age development period, and two years direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a childcare program or related field of work.

  • Must be willing to consent to a multi-phase criminal background check.

  • Kind, creative, flexible, and caring personality that works well with children and as part of the after-school program staff team.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritize and delegate tasks.

  • Must communicate effectively.

  • Strong schedule flexibility for coverage required.
