BACKGROUNDThe Bronx District Attorney’s Office in New York City serves a multicultural, international community of 1.4 million residents. Led by District Attorney Darcel D. Clark, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office is one of the country’s leading prosecutorial offices. The Office mission of “Pursuing Justice With Integrity” captures its commitment to pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. BXDA's Planning and Analysis Unit serves as the internal management consulting arm of the Office. The unit is responsible for the research, submission, implementation and reporting associated with all federal, state, and local grant applications. These grants help with the Office’s prosecutorial practices. In addition to grants management and research duties, the unit has oversight for data and policy analysis.JOB SUMMARY: The Policy Analyst will be responsible for supporting the Unit with a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: guiding the analytic and research efforts of the team to advance policy planning and strategic initiatives, including but not limited to: performing quantitative data analysis and reporting, diversity and inclusion workforce analytics, data management, database assessment to determine quality and accuracy, helping to guide the creation and automation of ad hoc and recurrent reports, grant writing. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:• Supporting the unit with developing a system of reporting and analytic operations by leveraging programming languages (e.g., R, Python) and dashboarding applications (e.g., Power BI, Tableau);• Quantitative analysis projects including identification of data sources, development of metrics, checking, cleaning, and verifying data from large, complex criminal justice databases;• Benchmarking workforce analytics and data science related to diversity, equity and inclusion• Analyzing existing databases to assess accessibility and accuracy and identifying opportunities for new data sources or variables;• Identifying areas of concern and developing strategies to correct deficiencies or problems;• Developing tools and methods to support reproducible and automated reports and analyses.• Providing support to other bureaus across the agency on analysis and reporting;• Perform policy research, including literature reviews and national best practices research on emerging trends in criminal justice.• Coordinate federal, state, local and private grant portfolios, including drafting proposals and managing grants, to support the Office’s work. • Technical writing, proof-reading, editing, copy writing, grant writing and other equivalent written communication required.• Perform all other related duties and projects as assigned. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred, in criminal justice, social sciences, public policy, statistics, or a related field preferred.• A minimum of two (2) years related experience in data analysis or quantitative research, preferably in a non-profit or public sector setting.• Experience using data analysis software such as R, Python, SPSS, SAS, etc.• Experience with grants management or grant writing preferred. • Interest in or knowledge of the criminal justice system and criminal justice data.• Interest in workforce analytics and metrics related to diversity, equity and inclusion• Excellent written and verbal interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills• Strong project management skills in a team-oriented environment• Strong quantitative abilities and familiarity with research and evaluation methods and statistical analyses• Strong analytical and computer skills• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
