B3 Medical-Surgical Unit

Brockton Hospital’s B3 Medical-Surgical Unit is an esteemed 23-bed unit, equipped with 10 telemetry monitoring channels and a commitment to interdisciplinary, patient-focused care. Embracing a collaborative team approach, we prioritize communication, respect, diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring a healing environment for both patients and their families. At B3, our clinical focus encompasses a diverse range of medical and surgical conditions. Our dedicated nursing staff, with a favorable nurse-to-patient ratio, possesses essential medical-surgical and telemetry skills, with a preference for basic telemetry proficiency. Our expertise extends to managing central lines, feeding tubes, chest tubes, dialysis, IV infusions, wound care, bipap, and the newly introduced telemetry monitoring.

Registered Nurse (RN) Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assessment: collects relevant patient health data (age-specific pertinent to specialty area).

  • Diagnosis: analyzes the assessment data in determining nursing diagnoses.

  • Outcome identification: identifies individualized, expected outcomes for patient.

  • Planning/Implementation: develops and implements Plan of Care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.

  • Evaluation: evaluates and documents the patient’s progress toward attaining expected outcomes in the patient medical record.

  • Provide nursing care to assigned patients.

  • Administers prescribed medication and intravenous solutions in a safe manner.

  • Reports significant alterations in patient’s condition to physician.

  • Counsels, educate, and includes patients and their families in accordance with the overall plan of care.

  • Assists patient and family in coping with stress accompanying illness; offering solace and support to the dying.

  • Quality of Care: systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.

  • Individual Practice Evaluation: reflects knowledge of current professional practice standards, laws, regulations, and changes in health care delivery, in daily practice.

  • Education: acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency in the care of patients.

  • Collegiality: interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and other healthcare providers as colleagues.

  • Ethics: decisions and actions on behalf of patients are determined in an ethical manner.

  • Collaboration: collaborates with the team, consisting of patient, family, and healthcare providers, in providing patient care in a healing, humane, and caring environment.

  • Research: uses clinical inquiry in practice

  • Resource Utilization: considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care.

Required

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing. May be a beginning practitioner.

  • Licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse. Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers completion.

Preferred

  • Software/Hardware: Meditech experience preferred.
