Engineer Intern Applicant: $24.04/hourly - Must be eligible for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
Engineer Intern 1: Special Entrance Rate (SER) $26.44/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
Engineer Intern 2: Special Entrance Rate (SER) $28.29/ hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate plus one year of professional engineering experience.
Engineer 3: Special Entrance Rate (SER) $33.39/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.
Engineer 4: Special Entrance Rate (SER) $36.90/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus One year of licensed engineering experience OR Five years of professional engineering experience.
Engineer 5: Special Entrance Rate (SER) $39.48/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus two years of licensed engineering experience OR Six years of professional engineering experience.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE:
This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.

Job Concepts
FUNCTION OF WORK:
To apply scholastic theory and elementary engineering skills to a variety of tasks involving standard procedures and practices in the field, office, or laboratory in order to acquire practical experience for licensure.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Entry.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Close from a higher-level engineer.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Functional supervision may be exercised over Engineering Technicians.
LOCATION OF WORK:
May be used by all state agencies.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Engineering Technicians and other related jobs by the presence of responsibility for applying engineering principles under close supervision.
Differs from Engineer Intern 1 by the absence of a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
Examples of Work
30% Assist the Engineer 6 in directing and supervising highway and bridge construction, survey activities, contract administration and associated functions of a construction gang. Functionally supervises employees engaged in construction work with DOTD. Work assignments included monitoring inspection techniques for desired results. Instructs and trains new employees as needed. Meets with public to resolve complaints. Meets with contractors to resolve construction issues. Reviews plans for upcoming projects.
25% Assist the Project Engineer in solving problems that arise in the field using engineering judgment and principles. Makes engineering decisions under the direct supervision of the Project Engineer. Interprets construction plans to determine practicality, if they serve the purpose intended, constructability, and if they use sound engineering practices.
20% Proficient in the use of software such as Proval for evaluating IRI to ensure conformance with project specifications; Headlight for preparing project diaries, SiteManager for generating estimates, Excel for creating and maintaining electronic field book records, reviewing change order backup information and preparing change orders, and assessing time charges; Site Manager Materials for reviewing and approving sampling and testing for projects; evaluation of retro-reflectivity requirements to ensure conformance with project specifications; Reviewing and commenting on Constructability and Biddability plan reviews; Reviewing shop drawings such as but not limited to precast drainage structures submittals; Preparing MyDOTD press releases for projects.
5% Participates in preconstruction conferences with engineers and contractors to discuss construction scheduling, method of construction and potential problems. Maintains field records and calculates quantities for partial and final estimates on multimillion dollar projects. Devises and implements plan changes within these projects. Prepares primary claim analysis and synopsis for review and approval.
5% Interpret test results on soils, asphaltic concrete, structural & paving concrete, and structural & reinforcing steel to determine their suitability for use in the construction of the project.
5% Conduct preplanning and preconstruction site investigations to assess and determine project needs and quantities using engineering principles and techniques.
5% Prepares 2059 documentation for final acceptance. These duties include all sampling for all materials used for items of construction on assigned DOTD projects.
5%Will be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
