Why this job matters

In this job, you’ll be the Technical Test Specialist for Mobile Quality Assurance, responsible for identifying and designing e2e test solutions for our ever evolving technical and business challenges. You will be responsible for identifying solutions through the application of relevant processes and practices, the use of tools and technology and by applying soft skills such as effective communication and mentoring across the team, the wider technology delivery teams and our business partners and stakeholders.

You will focus on design, implementation, use and enablement of testing solutions, working closely with the Programme Test Manager, and design and test teams. You will ensure that approaches, tools and techniques are built into a relevant methodology and continually monitor, optimise, mentor, collaborate and improve our testing tools and techniques.

Test Architects form part of the Architecture family; working closely with other types of Architects across Technology.

What you’ll be doing

  • Utilise a broad knowledge of testing approaches, practices and techniques in order to engage up front in value streams, projects, programmes etc., to define the strategy for testing BT’s products and services.

  • Support Programme Test Managers and Test Managers in achieving their strategic goals for the project / programme / activity by providing technical support to the them and the test delivery teams.

  • Monitor the effectiveness of testing methodologies and tools in order to drive improvements through insights gained via analysis at all stages of the e2e delivery lifecycle.

  • Identify what testing tools and technologies can be implemented, aligning with those already used across the broader design and development functions and those being developed by our strategic technology partners.

  • Work with the Test Service Assurance team to design and develop the test automation framework as an intrinsic part of the solution design. To drive automation first and increase our automation footprint over successive deliveries.

  • Create test design patterns for re-use in future solution design settings, including the test requirements for regression testing and in life Quality Assurance.

  • Work with the Environment delivery and support teams to ensure Mobile NW and IT environments keep up with testing tools and delivery requirements.

  • Provide technical know-how, documentation and training to test and other business functions

  • Stay up to speed on process, practice and technology developments to ensure they are brought in to Test and enhance the solutions applied to technical and business requirements.

Skills required

  • Must have experience of identifying testing solutions to Technology & Business developments and drive the adoption of new technologies and processes in order to provide better quality and delivery methodologies appropriate to diverse service and business requirements.

  • Must have experience of working with test service partners and tools & systems suppliers.

  • Must be able to work collaboratively with internal and external customers, stakeholders, partners to ensure alignment to technical and business requirements.

Technical Knowledge

  • Mobile Network knowledge: 2G/3G/4G/VoLTE & IMS/ 5G NSA (EN-DC), 5G Stand Alone

  • Cloud / Containerisation

  • NFVi - Network Functions Virtualization Infrastructure

  • VNF/CNF - Virtual/Cloud Network Function

Qualifications

  • Degree level education

  • TOGAF / ITIL and CCNA qualifications desirable

  • Relevant industry body memberships
