L3Harris in Bristol/Burgess Hill/Barrow provides enduring, robust and cutting-edge Integrated Platform Management Systems (IPMS) for the UK Royal Navy sub-surface and surface fleets, notably current Astute submarine and Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) aircraft carriers, in-build Type 26 and Type 31 frigates.

    What the role will involve

    The responsibilities of your role will include the following:

  • Lead the team technically and act as a technical focal point for both internal and external (customer and suppliers) leadership teams.

  • Ensure that the engineering team deployed on the programme is comprised of the required skillsets, with access to suitable tools and processes to be able to carry out their work effectively.

  • Work collaboratively with the Project Manager, Project Engineer, commercial and supply chain leads in order to deliver a compliant technical solution on budget and to schedule.

  • Ensure that the customer’s requirements have been fully analysed and incorporated into the solution, including all engineering activities and technical requirements encompassed by the contract.

  • Technical Management – Ensure that appropriate systems, processes, information and training is deployed within the project to ensure effective technical management

  • Understand the specialist needs of each engineering discipline and be able to advise strategically on the engineering requirements to delivery the project technically.

  • Ensure that all required technical deliverables are developed to the required maturity, and act as approver (or delegate) approval of those deliverables ensuring they were developed using correct information, using required processes and tools, appropriate levels of SQEP and peer reviews have been completed, and that the deliverables are fit for purpose. Work with the PE and PM to maintain a list of technical deliverables that is required to be produced by the project.

    What you’ll bring

    The role requires the following experience and skills:

  • Equivalent of Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience working on complex engineering projects

  • Extensive experience delivering multi-disciplined projects comprising the following: electrical, mechanical, software, and specialist engineering analysis (support, security, systems).

  • Extensive experience designing and delivering complex systems to meet demanding customer requirements, defence standards, marine type approval and class society requirements, and international engineering, quality, systems, safety, software, electrical and mechanical standards (e.g. IEC, ISOs etc).

  • Excellent understanding of systems concepts, context, boundaries, interfaces, system hierarchy and the principles of system partitioning in order to help manage complexity

  • Broad knowledge of Systems Design methodologies
