Title: SVP, Commercial Lead Location: Brisbane, California About Us: Vera Therapeutics (Nasdaq: VERA), is a late-stage biotechnology company focused on developing treatments for serious immunological diseases. Vera’s mission is to advance treatments that target the source of immunologic diseases in order to change the standard of care for patients. Vera’s lead product candidate is atacicept, a fully humanized fusion protein self-administered at home as a subcutaneous injection once weekly that blocks both B-cell Activating Factor (BAFF) and A Proliferation Inducing Ligand (APRIL), which stimulate B cells and plasma cells to produce galactose-deficient IgA1 (Gd-IgA1) and associated autoantibodies, which together form immune complexes that are fundamental in the pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy (IgAN). Vera is also considering evaluating the role of atacicept in other immunologic disorders. Additionally, Vera is developing MAU868, a monoclonal antibody designed to neutralize infection with BK Virus, a polyomavirus that can have devastating consequences in certain settings such as kidney transplant. Position Summary: Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Commercial Lead will provide the leadership, strategic vision, and functional expertise required to successfully commercialize Vera Therapeutic’s pipeline, including atacicept in its lead indication of IgA Nephropathy (IgAN), also known as Berger’s disease. In this role, the Commercial Lead will be a welcomed enterprise level leader, leading a best-in-class commercial organization to scale as needed over time. With a global perspective on market opportunities, this leader will drive the assessment and prioritization of geographic and clinical market segments and directly influence critical decisions with key market information and analytics. The Commercial Lead will be a key member of the leadership team and will develop and deliver a commercial strategy that is aligned with the corporate strategy. This leader will provide commercial input to development activities and will be responsible for leading a best-in-class commercial organization. The Commercial Lead will partner closely with R&D in all pre-launch and launch activities and be a leader that will play a critical role in helping the transformation of the company into a global commercial entity. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to bring commercial line of sight to the R&D portfolio and help to shape and drive an early-stage portfolio strategy that will address areas of high unmet need in the market. The Commercial Lead will continue to lead the competitive, forward-looking go-to-market commercial model that puts patients first and will create sustainable revenue growth. The successful candidate will oversee cross-functional commercial capabilities, stakeholder engagement, market access (pricing, reimbursement, and managed care), new product planning, marketing, commercial analytics and forecasting, sales leadership, partnership with medical, and portfolio strategy as well as government affairs and patient advocacy. Responsibilities: • Lead the global commercial vision for Vera Therapeutics, including a close partnership with R&D. • Represent the voice of commercial strategy and innovation internally, to the leadership team, periodically to the board of directors, to key outside stakeholders, including physicians, patients, payers, and, as appropriate, investors and research analysts. • Effectively represent Vera Therapeutic’s commercial vision and strategy to external stakeholders; has the credibility to effectively engage with a diverse set of audiences. • Lead the sales and go-to-market organization (including field sales, specialist support, patient support services and market access). • Assess commercial organizational needs including developing recommendations on size and structure of the entire commercial organization, gaining support internally, and executing on the build with appropriate urgency to ensure launch readiness. • Anticipate and proactively address changing needs of markets, customers, and the business; and prioritize/position the portfolio accordingly. • Leads with a dynamic, innovative, progressive thinking, results-driven approach, driving a customer/patients-focused culture of accountability with the highest integrity. • A well-rounded combination of strategic perspective, tactical operational expertise, strong analytical skills, business savvy, financial acumen, and sound judgment with the ability to think broadly and courage to make tough decisions. • Manage an operating budget, allocate resources effectively, design appropriate metrics, achieve a strong sense of accountability, and develop action plans to improve performance. Manage the P&L for commercial organization. • Knows how to assess, attract and retain top commercial talent; drive talent acquisition, succession planning and support professional development of commercial leadership team. • Continue to build a highly integrated, collaborative and cohesive multi-functional commercial organization, working seamlessly to bridge relationships and effectively work across functions, including R&D, business development, regulatory, medical affairs, manufacturing, legal, HR, etc. • Hands-on, roll-up your sleeves approach to execution, consistent with the rest of the executives at Vera Therapeutics. Qualifications: • An experienced senior commercial leader in the biopharma industry with 20+ years of experience building and leading commercial teams with a deep understanding of commercialization strategy and working in close partnership with R&D. • A track record of success building and leading a best-in-class global commercial organization including (i) leading pre-launch marketing plan, (ii) successfully launching products in the bio/pharmaceutical space, (iii) stakeholder engagement (iv) market access activities (payers, pharmacoeconomics), and (v) commercial input to design of pivotal studies. • Has experience in either country level P&L leadership and/or global commercial leadership roles; currently responsible for cross-functional teams. • Demonstrated experience in translating a label into commercial positioning and seeing a pre-launch marketing plan through successful launch and commercialization. • Experience managing a portfolio of products, directing marketing teams, training and leading a salesforce. • Experience with market access, pricing and reimbursement strategy as well as collaborating with medical affairs and government affairs. • Significant aptitude for complex scientific discussions and partnering closely with R&D. • Strong executive presence; excels in presenting to the board and investors. • Ability to be highly organized, detail-oriented, and calm under pressure. • High energy for a start-up environment; innovative and proactive team player. • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently in a fluid environment. For this role, the anticipated base pay range is $380,000 - $410,000. The exact base pay offered for this role will depend on various factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geography, qualifications, skills, and experience. At Vera, base pay is only one part of your total compensation package. The successful candidate will be eligible for an annual performance incentive bonus, new hire equity, and ongoing performance-based equity.
