The Software Development Manager role within Under-The-Roof Technology (UTRT) will provide you with an opportunity to lead a team of Amazon engineers who obsess over making Amazon's fulfillment business a best in world solution. In particular, UTRT's Brisbane based engineering teams own the critical process of outbound fulfillment planning. The features you build have direct impact on customers lives and drive down the costs in fulfilling customer's orders. You will work with scientists and engineers to optimize "under the roof" processes, reducing costs and improving quality. You will experiment with new ideas, turning the successful ones into full production systems whilst failing fast and learning from those which are not.

As a Software Development Manager you will work with passionate Product Managers, Software Development Engineers and business stakeholders to define, build and operate features for customers across the globe. You own the development of your strategic vision. You will hire and develop a diverse team to deliver upon your vision. You will manage the day-to-day tactical execution of your team, delivering customer features and operating your services. You will dive deep into both customer experience and operational metrics to identify areas where you can improve the experience for your customers.

Key job responsibilities

  • You will work Product Managers and Principal Engineers to define the technical strategy for your team and lead its delivery.

  • You own the tactical day-to-day delivery of results

  • You own the operational excellence of your services

  • You own the hiring of your team, the development of their careers and management of their performance.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  • 5+ years experience managing an engineering teams operating online systems in a large scale environment or complex problem space.

  • 8+ years of software development experience, either as an individual contributor or team lead.

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/networks development life cycle, including system design, coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Deep understanding of infrastructure delivered through the software development lifecycle in an API-enabled environment including agile development, software /patterns, and modern cloud services.
