Bozeman Health New Graduate Nurse Residency - Fall 2024 Cohort in Bozeman, Montana

Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse Resident works in a collaborative and cooperative relationship with other members of the health care team. The Registered Nurse Resident will provide specific care to assigned patient(s) as required under the scope of the RN license and under the direction of a RN Preceptor.

The residency program provides a comprehensive period where RNs can fill the gap between school and the actual requirements of practicing nurses. Residents receive classroom instruction, skills and simulation labs and debriefing and mentoring sessions. RN Residents will rotate through departments to ensure varied clinical experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Montana Licensure (Registered Nurse)

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing within the last 12 months

  • American Heart Association BLS

  • Competence in and a willingness and ability to practice modified primary nursing

Essential Job Functions:

  • Attends and actively participates throughout all requirements of the residency program as defined in the program information, including classroom instruction.

  • Participates regularly in debriefing and mentoring sessions.

  • Maintains and demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards, and techniques and applies this knowledge in accordance with Bozeman Health System policies and work instructions and within laws and regulations governing nursing practice in the State of Montana.

  • Assesses the patient’s condition and needs using critical thinking and clinical judgment: sets outcomes; implements appropriate nursing actions and collaborates with other disciplines to meet the patient’s/family’s physical, emotional, spiritual, ethical, social, and intellectual needs; and evaluates patient’s progress.

  • Participates in activities that promote professional growth and development of self and others.

  • Communicates (both written and orally) effectively and maintains professional relationships with caregivers, medical staff, patients, and guests.

  • Begins to identify work-related problems with possible solutions and implements solution(s) (within scope of practice), when appropriate.

  • Actively participates in the management of the patient’s experience by clarifying, integrating, and coordinating the roles of the interdisciplinary team.

  • Participates in creating a healing environment that supports all aspects of the care environment and the wholeness of each individual, patient and caregiver.

  • Provides a therapeutic presence in service to others by purposefully responding to the needs of patients in a caring way, including introducing oneself and explaining role in patient’s care, asking the patient his or her preferred name, sitting with the patient to determine his or her care goals, active listening, and communicating effectively and appropriately through touch, eye contact, etc.

  • Documents all patient care with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies, procedures and regulatory agencies.

  • Calculates dosages and administers medications accurately in accordance with Bozeman Health System policies and procedures for medication administration.

  • Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.

  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.

  • Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the organization’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violation of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all organizational investigations and proceedings.

  • Delivers customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate.

  • Develops cultural competence and provides appropriate care to patients and family members who belong to diverse cultural backgrounds.

  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.
