Section II - Description of Duties Performed

General Summary of Purpose of this Position:

Providing outstanding customer service, and social service application assistance to HRDC customers onsite. The ability to communicate conversationally in Spanish is required. The work schedule will be from 12 to 4pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday,12–7pm on Tuesdays and 8am – 12pm on Fridays.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Duty Statement: This position has the following duties and responsibilities. They are listed starting with the most important.   1. Work independently and within a team to support customers through the check-in process to the food bank. Assist navigating customers to Case Managers so they may identify needs and work with customers to overcome barriers to self-sufficiency and food security for both English-speaking and LEP customers. (80%)
  • Intake and Check-In -Oversees customer check-in process daily.

  • Works side by side with volunteers who assist with the check-in process.

  • Provides customer service for individuals and families in need of community assistance programs.

  • Provide necessary efforts to ensure wellness, safety, and equity for all cultures and ethnicities.

  • Enforces policies and programming that affirm, support, and value diversity, including LGBTQ+ individuals, families, and communities.

  • Maintain balanced client empathy and exercise good judgment to set healthy boundaries in relationships with customers.

  • Understand and connect customers across a wide range of socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds to appropriate resources in their community.

2.Customer Care & Supervision (10%)

  • Assists customers or directs them to the appropriate program or person.

  • Serves as a first contact with customers entering food bank services this position will assist in translation to connect customers to all HRDC programs

  • Coordinates with Montana Language Service and internal HRDC lead to support document translation quotes

  • Maintains a professional presence in the lobby in responding to inquiries by customers, donors, and volunteers for assistance.

  • Provides a timely flow to the Food Bank to ensure a smooth shopping experience for all involved

  • Works directly with the food bank staff and volunteers to communicate needs in the store

  • Serves as a team player in the safety and management of the Market Place lobby.

3.Reception & Data Entry (10%)

  • Works with Reception to ensure lobby safety for customers, volunteers, and staff.

  • Assists with Data Entry as needed.

  • Follows up with customers as necessary to ensure successful program outcomes in collaboration with case managers.

  • Understands the process of accepting and recording food donations from the public and able to route donations to the correct person.

  • Attends behavior review meetings with other HRDC staff for Market Place.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Language Skills:

  • Native/Bilingual Spanish speaking skills desired, conversational Spanish a minimum.

  • Read and comprehend basic instructions and present information to others.

  • Read, interpret, and write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Interpret and write general business documents or technical procedures.

Mathematical/ Money Handling Skills:

  • Basic counting skills

  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide simple numbers.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Utilize internet/ e-mail to access, send, retrieve, save, print, or transmit documents, or data files.

  • Operate personal computer with Windows operating system to start programs, input, format, and edit data files and print or transmit data.

  • Utilize proprietary, custom, or online programs or databases to input, format, and edit data and save, print, or transmit data.

  • State or federal regulations or laws (List by name): ServSafe, Food Safety and Storage Procedures, all other guidelines on sanitation practices following regulatory and licensing requirements. HRDC will provide.

Drivers Licenses Required for Performing this Position:

  • Montana Class D Driver License and appropriate insurance

Professional Licenses or Certifications Required by Law, Rule, or Regulation for Performing this Position:

+ + Server ServSafe Training (will be provided by employer)

Licenses or Certifications That Would Be Useful but Are Not Required:

+ + CPR/First Aid

  • Crisis De-Escalation (CPI) training

  • Colombia Protocol training

  • SNAP (food stamp) training.

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with a wide range of individuals from all socio-economic groups.

  • Ability to read, interpret and implement documents such as governmental regulations, rules, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and effectively manage workflow.

  • Extensive knowledge of health, nutrition, and mental health resources preferred.

  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints from customers or claimants.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Helpful to have a current driver license and willing to drive a truck (noncommercial)

Education and Experience:

Education:The following course(s) of study or classwork usually provides the required knowledge skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position:

  • Associate's degree or experience in community health, social work, nursing, food, and nutrition or related field from two year college or university preferred.

Experience:The following kinds of experience usually provide the required knowledge skills and abilities to perform the duties of this position:

  • One year of experience in public and community health and/or social work

  • Documented experience working with people from diverse health, nursing, socio-economic, educational, and experiential backgrounds.

  • Experience working with sensitive and vulnerable populations such as immigrants, refugees, or asylum seekers is a plus.

Supervision Received:

  • This position operates under general supervision. The incumbent’s work is primarily assigned by daily workflow and operations. The incumbent is authorized to make decisions as to the timing and sequence of work and the work is performed according to established policies and procedures and/or within applicable laws, rules, and regulations governing the tasks being performed.
