Job Description

NREL’s Site Operations, Site Services is looking for a Technician to work cross-functionally and under minimal supervision to perform a variety of functions in a complex receiving, distribution, stockroom and shipping operation office. Perform receiving, distribution, stockroom, and shipping services of moderate scope and complexity as operational needs dictate.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Interact daily with FedEx, UPS, USPS, 3PL and local vendors. Accept, document, inspect, and process all incoming deliveries of material and equipment in the receiving role. Inspect incoming material and equipment (type, quantity, condition), audit order details against package contents.

  • Manifest, stage, transport, and issue received items throughout the laboratory complex in the distribution role.

  • Inspect, package, document, stage, and coordinate all outgoing shipments in the shipping role.

  • Perform stock-checks, replenish stockroom inventory and pull stockroom orders as part of the stockroom functions/responsibilities.

  • Support Property Management in the identification (tagging) and control (inventory and disposition) of government personal property across the campus (Flatirons Campus and South Table Mountain Campus). This includes performing annual inventory and physical movement of excess personal property to the Golden Warehouse.

  • Perform inter-organizational management of USPS mail services, operate interoffice mail service, collect and return small excess property items.

  • Safely handle, control, and document the receipt and movement of chemicals and compressed gasses.

  • Coordinate staging of received items on loading dock per distribution route, pick, load and transport hazardous material, build documentation package for transport of hazardous material.

  • Use FedEx, UPS, and Pitney Bows shipping software, work with requestors to resolve any issues with shipping, inspect outgoing item(s) for conformance, quantity and condition.

  • Pull, prepare and stage stockroom orders for delivery, interact and assist with inventory questions or product information from personnel.

  • Operate chemical and compressed gas reception, storage, and issue point.

  • Support offsite warehouse operations.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Associate's Degree or certification program of comparable scope and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Extensive knowledge in specialized focused business support functions. A comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects of business support activities, and their practical application to a wide variety of problems and situations specific to the discipline or field supported. Advanced skills in applicable software packages and office equipment. Considerable project administration and business services skills. Broad knowledge of specific principles, procedures, and practices related to supported fields and disciplines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, team and interpersonal skills.

Additional Required Qualifications

  • Experience providing shipping, receiving, and property services including general material handling equipment.

  • Ability to obtain and retain Dangerous Goods Certification for Shippers.

  • Ability to obtain or have the ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within one year to transport hazardous materials or to transport greater than 26,001 pounds.

  • Ability to obtain and retain an NREL CMV Program certification if operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV).

  • Ability to obtain and retain a High Risk Property Certification.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Job Profile: Specialist IV / Annual Salary Range: $55,400 - $91,400

NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
