Job Summary

The University of Colorado Population Center (CUPC) and the Institute of Behavioral Science (IBS) at the University of Colorado Boulder are recruiting a postdoctoral associate with expertise in demography, quantitative spatial analysis, and population health, for a two-year appointment, to begin no later than January 1, 2025.

The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Who We Are

The Institute of Behavioral Science (IBS) is a research institute at the University of Colorado Boulder. Since its establishment in 1957, IBS has provided a setting for interdisciplinary collaborative research on problems of societal concern. By engaging faculty from all the social and behavioral sciences, IBS encourages work that transcends disciplinary boundaries, that illuminates the complexity of social behavior and social life, and that has important implications for social policy.

IBS is organized into five research programs, each defined by an interdisciplinary area of research and directed by a senior research scientist. Three programs have centers that specialize in research topics consistent with the broader goals of the Program. Computing and Research Services provide computing and information technology services for IBS research activities.

CUPC is an NIH-funded research center with several thematic areas of scholarship including health disparities and behaviors, reproductive health, gene-environment interactions, environmental demography, and migration.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Candidates must have experience in demographic research and spatial data analysis, and more generally in quantitative methods, the use of computational, statistical, and data scientific approaches for interdisciplinary research, and data integration involving spatial and non-spatial data. We expect candidates to have substantial experience with statistical analysis and data management in the R environment, Python, and Stata, as well as spatial analysis software. Candidates are expected to bring particular interest in interdisciplinary research and to participate in and develop future interdisciplinary projects. The candidate will work on a research project funded by the National Institute on Aging that examines the ways that a place-based analysis of mortality in mid-life adults may improve our understanding of how mortality in that age group has increased in the past forty years.

Postdoctoral researchers will work at the CUPC in the Institute of Behavioral Science, will participate in relevant working groups, regularly attend and present within the CUPC speaker series, and participate in other CUPC workshops and mentoring activities.
